"All Hallows' Eve", being the evening before the Christian holy days of All Hallows' Day (All Saints' Day) on 1 November and All Souls' Day on 2 November marks the beginning of the observance of Allhallowtide, dedicated to remembering the dead. Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Samhain is a Gaelic festival on 1 November marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or "darker half" of the year. According to Irish mythology, Samhain was a time when the 'doorways' to the Otherworld opened, allowing supernatural beings and the souls of the dead to come into our world. Día de los Muertos is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2 and involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and remember friends and family members who have died.
