Reliable. Innovative. Resilient. In researching Tupperware as part of a business project, I was surprised to learn the company is still operating in 2024! Growing up, I remember peeking in on those living room “parties” where Tupperware was demoed and sold. As an adult, what sticks with me most are the qualities that defined Tupperware products: reliable, innovative, and resilient. But as the market changed, Tupperware’s reliance on “the old way” limited its growth and the company is currently working through bankruptcy. This made me reflect on leadership today—how doing things “the way we’ve always done it” can hold teams and organizations back. A leader’s strongest qualities can actually become limitations if they don’t adapt. This was highlighted by a recent executive panel I attended, where leaders discussed how they’re evolving their approaches to prepare for tomorrow. The panel shared strategies for flexible work practices, employee retention programs, and non-traditional hiring practices. 💡 Imagine the possibilities of opening doors to skills-based hiring, neurodivergent talent, and experienced professionals ready for encore careers…. 🤔 Shifting to non-traditional approaches isn’t always easy, a sentiment echoed by the panel of executives! It takes courage to think differently, exploring what’s possible, and embracing innovation to create growth in teams and businesses.   This is where executive coaching can make a difference—helping leaders find the courage to build teams that are not just reliable, innovative, and resilient, but also forward-thinking. Pedaling Forward: Leadership Lessons From Power Zone Training Recently, I attended a local networking event where I met a few fellow business owners. After initially talking about our businesses, the conversation shifted to our hobbies and interests. I shared that I love spending time on my indoor cycle, specifically Power Zone training. Power Zone training is not just about getting stronger; it’s about learning how to manage yourself through varying intensity levels. In my opinion, leadership isn’t much different. Like cycling, leadership requires navigating moments of calm, pushing through challenges, and knowing when to recover. 😁 Zone 1 (Active Recovery): This is your comfort zone! You’re moving along, navigating the usual day-to-day with very few surprises. You feel really confident because this is your safe zone. 😃 Zone 2 (Endurance): This is your discipline zone! You’re taking steps forward and starting to build a foundation. Things are steady and predictable. Your team is performing. Your focus is on maintaining consistency and laying the groundwork for any challenges ahead. 🥴 Zone 3 (Tempo): You’re starting to feel the effort now—challenges are cropping up, and the workload is demanding more focus and energy. You’re still in control, but it’s taking everything to keep up. This is the pressure zone, where leaders balance competing priorities and shifting goals. 😰 Zone 4 (Threshold): You’re drenched in sweat at this point. You’re pushing limits—whether it’s leading through crises or handling restructuring possibilities while keeping team morale in check. The growth happens here, even though it’s uncomfortable. This is your growth zone. 🥵 Zone 5 (VO2 Max):  Everything feels like it’s on fire—major industry disruptions, layoffs, or transformational changes are happening. You’re questioning your choices (including why you may have selected this ride in the first place)! This is intense, and while you can’t stay here too long, leaders who excel in this zone can make significant impact. Welcome to the max zone! Each of these zones has value but staying too long in any one can either lead to burnout or stagnation. The key is to develop the skills to shift gears when needed—knowing when to push harder, when to ease off, and how to recover quickly. Just like Power Zone training, leadership coaching can prepare you for all these zones: ✅ Discovering when it’s time to step out of your comfort zone. ✅ Developing the resilience to manage the pressure and growth zones. ✅ Learning how and when to recover and re-energize before burnout hits. So, where are you in your leadership journey? Are you coasting in Zone 1 or grinding through Zone 5? Drop a comment below to share your current zone and any plans to shift gears to take your leadership to the next level. Let’s talk about how coaching can help you navigate the ride. #LeadingExecutively #ExecutiveCoaching #LeadershipCoaching #PerformanceMindset #PowerZones #BuildingResilience

***Turning Limitations into Leadership Opportunities*** Growing up, I loved watching MacGyver. MacGyver was resourceful and had a pretty cool ability to turn whatever he had—a Swiss Army knife, some chewing gum, a shoestring, and duct tape—into creative solutions to get out of a jam. He didn’t wait for perfect conditions; he worked with what he had available. 💯 In today's environment, I often hear frustrations about lack of resources: financial, human, or even time and energy. These are very real challenges—not another episode with a guaranteed happy ending. But when resources are limited, so are your results, right? Not necessarily. 🤔 So, what can you do when you feel like you don’t have the tools to be successful? 🗣 Here are 5 insights from my experiences: 1️⃣ Redefine Success Be realistic about what you can achieve with the resources you have. Does everything have to be perfect, or can a “C” job get you closer to your goals without burning out? Sometimes, "good enough" moves you forward. ⏩ 2️⃣ Create White Space Unstructured time is essential. Whether it's mindfulness, journaling, a walk, or just unplugging, giving yourself room to think can spark creativity and focus. Inhale fresh air and exhale the possibilities. 🤔 3️⃣ Reframe the Challenge Instead of thinking, "I don’t have enough resources to finish this project," ask yourself, "What can I do with what I have?" Maybe it means focusing on the top three priorities that will create the most value. Be strategic and align your efforts with where you can make the biggest impact. 👍🏾 4️⃣ Phone a Friend Sometimes we cannot see the forest for the trees! 🌲 🌲 Don’t underestimate the power of another perspective. Whether it’s a colleague, friend, or mentor, fresh eyes can help you find solutions you might not have considered on your own. 👀 5️⃣ Go Rogue! Think like a startup. What’s your version of a Swiss Army knife? Maybe you can use stretch assignments, tap into freemium or open source tools, or even host a hackathon at a local university to solve challenges. When resources are tight, creativity thrives. 💡 Yes, limitations can feel like barriers to success, but they can also spark your most innovative and impactful work. It's not about waiting for the perfect conditions—it's about creatively using what you have, just like MacGyver. When you’re ready to turn your challenges into opportunities and need a space to brainstorm and strategize, let's connect! #LeadingExecutively #ExecutiveCoach #LeadershipCoach #ReframeChallenges #LimitationsIntoOpportunities

This week was tough. About 30% of my connections were impacted by a recent mass layoff (either directly or by immediate family members). Layoffs are……let me just say it…..they suck! They suck for the person directly impacted. They suck for the teammates who remain. They suck for the leaders who needed to deliver the message while also trying to keep the rest of the company/org/team focused on the work that still must be done. Layoffs suck! But….you know what else? 🤔 The situation is temporary. It may not feel that way in this moment, but I am hopeful…and optimistic…and encouraging those affected to channel positive energy about your tomorrow. I want you to know that: ✅ Your worth was not determined by your title or the company that you worked for. ✅ Your identity was not your badge or employee number. ✅ Your ability to do great work was not enabled by having a dotcom email address. YOU 👈🏾 were at the center of all those things. YOU! 👈🏾 Remind yourself that you have value, abilities, and an identity that is not “the company”. Take the time to pause and reflect on all that you were able to accomplish when you were at “the company”.  Really enjoy those moments of reflection because YOU did that!! And guess what? 🤔 You can do it again – and it’ll be even BETTER the next time around because you climbed a different mountain, had on different gear, and adopted a different mindset to propel you over the next one. It may not feel like it in this moment, but better days ARE on the way! 💯 And if you have moments that aren’t so good, use your resources to get you back to where you need to be – mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually. Surround yourself with people who will give you the support that you need – family, friends, a therapist, a counselor, a sponsor, a coach, your spiritual leader, your fitness community….whomever those people are to you, lean into them to hold you up when you need it. You’ve got this! ❤️ #LeadingExecutively #ExecutiveCoach #LeadershipCoach #BetterTomorrow

***Lead with Confidence: Focus on What Truly Drives Success***   I had the pleasure of attending an executive leadership networking event this week. As the panelists shared their career journeys, I was reminded of my own. Early in my leadership journey, I learned a key lesson: staff to your weaknesses and play to your strengths. I’ve come across new and experienced leaders who feel they need to “know everything” to lead effectively. But here’s the truth: 🗣 Your role as a leader is not to know it all—it's to set a clear direction and develop your people. You've already proven your expertise. Now, your team needs you to guide, not micromanage. If you’re stuck in the weeds, it may be a sign of deeper trust, communication, or performance issues—areas you have the power to address. What your team truly needs is a leader who can offer 📈 opportunities for growth 👀 provide clarity on purpose ✅ help them prioritize what really matters Remember, your subject-matter expertise got you here, but it’s your ability to be a confident and effective leader that will take you and your team to the next level. 💯   Could you benefit from a safe space to work on your leadership goals and build the confidence to elevate your team? Coaching provides the environment to help you: ✅ gain clarity on your goals and priorities ✅ improve self-awareness ✅ build your confidence ✅ improve communication ✅ grow, personally and professionally When you’re ready to take action, let’s connect! #LeadingExecutively #ExecutiveCoach #LeadershipCoach #LeadWithConfidence

  • Detours - are they friend or foe??? 🤔

View profile for Ta-Nikka Harrison, graphic

Founder & CEO of Leading Executively Coaching & Consulting | Executive & Leadership Coach | Ex-Cisco Supply Chain VP | I help leaders transform aspirations into achievements!

Detours…..Friend or foe? Full transparency: “Now What?!” 😫 is usually my initial reaction to detours! ✅ I had a plan ✅ I knew the route ✅ I timed the departure and arrival I was on auto-pilot, coasting along in cruise control…until the detour! ⚠ I don’t believe I know anyone who welcomes the orange detour signage with open arms. We’re all in a hurry to get from Point A to Point B and that detour can certainly throw a wrench into things. But….what if that detour: 👍🏾 Kept you safe 🧘🏾♀️ Allowed you the extra time to just breathe 💡 Opened up the opportunity to explore something you never would have seen on your usual route Detours, like change, aren’t always convenient or in our control. How we respond to them IS! 💯 I didn’t welcome my last detour with open-arms but I did: 👌🏾  Acknowledge the sign 🔈 Turn up the volume ⏩ 😁 Proceed forward while wearing a cheshire cat grin as I explored the new path Those were in my control. I appreciated the new views that had been there the whole time yet invisible to me since I never explored that alternate route.  🤔 While detours are usually temporary, perhaps an interesting parallel to how you might navigate change(s) put in front of you. Food for thought! #LeadershipInsights #LeadingExecutively #ExecutiveCoach #LeadershipCoach #NavigatingChange #EmbracingChange #Detours
