Creating a pathway to learning for everyone.
About us
The Lee Pesky Learning Center works together with families, schools and communities to understand and overcome obstacles to learning. Our vision is to create a pathway to learning for everyone. As a national research, training and service center, we are committed to: 1. Design and deliver all services consistent with the Science of Learning and Development. We are committed to serving the whole person. Our services are designed through the self-regulated learner (SRL) framework, in which we support learners to become connected, self-aware, self-determined, strategic and resilient. 2. Empower those who work in service of students. Our professional development experts work with teachers, principals, parents and community organizations to build their capacity to provide high quality, equitable, inclusive learning environments in which all children can thrive. 3. Close the educational opportunity gap. Systemic and structural inequality and racism have created the conditions that leave too many students behind. Through direct services to students, to parents and to teachers, our goal is to promote inclusive, equitable and culturally responsive learning environments. 4. Advance research and practice in the Science of Learning and Development. Our research agenda is focused on developing, studying, and improving practice through our SRL framework. Through practitioner-researcher partnerships, we can better understand how self-regulation affects student learning, how to design integrated approaches that serve the whole person, and how to feasibly implement these practices across a variety of settings and contexts. 5. Prepare the next generation of practitioners. Our training programs prepare future practitioners to provide high quality individualized evaluation, academic and counseling support, effectively preparing them to excel in their respective fields, including: Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Counseling and Education Research.
