Dear book-loving friends: Left Field Publishers is currently open for submissions, and we’d love your help getting the word out! At Left Field, we’re obsessed with understanding, deconstructing, and reimagining what it means to be human. Our authors and editors demonstrate inclusivity, diversity, honesty, and courage. Like all literary rebels, we love good literature, and we live to defy the status quo. To that end, you’ll often find us disrupting traditional genres, literary standards, and social norms. As a full-service publisher, we manage all the work (and cover all the costs) of publication while providing an equitable royalty rate. We never charge a contracted author for any aspect of the publishing process, and everything we provide is clearly outlined in our contracts. Because we think clear is kind (and honest). For our writer friends who intend to self-publish or seek representation elsewhere, we also provide developmental editing and micro-consulting for manuscripts of all genres. Our social media team is having tons of fun over on TikTik (https://lnkd.in/e6sdp4px). If you'd like to stay in the know on submissions and job postings, we’d love to have you follow along on LinkedIn and our newly launched Facebook page. We are actively recruiting for fantasy, romantasy, and thriller; however, we’re open to submissions in any genre. We hope you’ll check us out at https://lnkd.in/eydeVMQC, and we encourage you to share with other writers, editors, and book lovers. Thanks, friends! About us
We’re an independent publishing label, not a vanity or hybrid press. We work with fiction (both literary and genre, including fantasy, thriller, horror, mystery, and romance), non-fiction, and poetry. We invest over $10,000 in each book, and we only run a handful of parallel projects to ensure a great author experience. We're small but mighty! We hope you'll follow along--and maybe even join the journey. Our authors and editors prize honesty, courage, and resilience in their work, promoting greater representation and inclusivity by disrupting traditional genres, literary standards, and social norms. Life is much more nuanced and richly textured than we’ve come to see in popular culture. And that’s why we think different is better.

On International Women's Day 2025, our President and Co-founder, Rachel Curtis, gives a shout-out to the leaders who inspired her career. The visionary behaviors demonstrated by these amazing women have become embedded in the way we do things out in Left Field. <3 Who is a woman who has inspired your career? #IWD25
Director of Informatics & Assistant Director of IT - MSU Health Care Founder & President - Left Field Publishers
For International Women's Day: Who is a woman who has inspired your career? - Suzette Hershman, MHA, who led through every challenge with grace (which is an understatement, indeed), never wavered in affirming the need to think differently within healthcare, and kept people at the heart of . . . everything. - Anne Lamott, who writes with conviction, clarity, courage--and more than a wee measure of cleverness. Smart AND funny . . . while always welling with compassion for others. - Glennon Doyle, who ceaselessly reminds me that authenticity makes the world a better place, even--maybe especially--when it's a bit terrifying (the world and one's vulnerability). - Amy Ruthenberg, who--through her unwavering example--has taught me everything I know about listening, patience, asking the right questions, interrogating every assumption, and prioritizing the life-changing work of deepening our own self-awareness. - Brene Brown, who demonstrates that curiosity and scientific inquiry really should drive to action in the most powerful ways--at home, work, and everywhere in between. - Leah Konwinski, CPE, who normalized so many behaviors that should be standard leadership practice. I continue to live the things you taught me, and I'll forever affirm to team members that even if they can't articulate why, it's okay to say an idea or a direction just doesn't feel good. - My mother, Judy, and sisters, Hannah, Sarah, and Debbie, who somehow find time to invest in themselves and share their art with the world--all while nurturing little humans on toward their own futures. - Rima Shah MD, MBA, who is actively redefining what good leadership looks like. Despite countless pressures, you genuinely live your values, not just in flashy, high-profile moments--but in everyday meetings and interactions with team members. The intentionality you demonstrate in staying true to purpose and people is incredibly refreshing. - Heather Paas, who defies reason in the way she balances personal excellence and serving others. Being a great mom, a high-performing PA, and a stellar athlete are all amazing in their own right. But together? Craziness, absolute craziness. My life has been immeasurably blessed by the example of so. many. incredible. women. I could go on and on! Huge appreciation to ALL the amazing women whose examples inspire, educate, and uplift others. <3 #IWD25

⁉️ So how DO we select finalists for an open position? At Left Field, we love transparency and progressive approaches to finding talent, so here's a little insight into our process and values: 1. We keep our postings open for 3-7 days. If you're a single parent, or a busy employee, or a social media detoxer (which we fully support!), we want to create space and time for you to put your best application forward--without dropping everything else that's important in your world. 2. We review every. single. application. (Yes, thousands!) Obviously, we have to say no to many, many amazing candidates, but if you put the time into applying, we're gonna put the time into reviewing. 3. When we advance candidates to the sample-editing round, we select a mix of: a) the traditionally "top" candidates -- those with flashy resumes and impressive work history, b) proven applicants whose applications demonstrate strong attention to detail and clear evidence of skill/experience, and c) break-out talent -- indviduals who demonstrate strong potential and might be at the start of making a career move or attempting to finally live their passion. We DEFINITELY want to be a part of helping amazing people get their start in the industry so we always create space in the final round for someone unexpected to blow us away! Once we're in the sample-editing phase, the contract is anybody's to win! 4. Our author ultimately makes the final decision from among the qualified finalists whose sample-edits meet our internal standards. We want to support and preserve authorial autonomy as much as possible. Our goal is to help authors elevate their stories--not overwrite them. :) #indiepublishing #weloveoureditors #WeLoveOurAuthors

🎉 We are THRILLED to announce Caroline Mansour as the latest addition to our roster of incredible authors! Caroline’s poignant novel explores the magic of human connection amid unimaginable circumstances. The story follows two women, each fighting to find their way. Rachel bears a terrible burden, struggling through each day with the responsibility she feels after her younger sister is left handicapped from a terrorist attack in Paris. Her efforts to find stability are upended when the erratic--but endearing--Suzy Reynolds insinuates herself into Rachel's life. As the two women pick their way through the detritus of their individual traumas, the unlikely, sometimes comical, intersection of their lives provides the impetus for change and, ultimately, redemption. At Left Field Publishers, we are proud to work with talented, emerging voices who push boundaries and create unforgettable stories. We can't wait for you to dive into Caroline’s work, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the book’s release draws near. Stay tuned for more details–and please join us in welcoming Caroline to the Left Field family! ✨ #NewAuthor #IndiePublisher #BookRelease #AuthorAnnouncement #SupportIndieAuthors #leftfieldpublishers Photo is of a smiling Caroline, holding a copy of her finished manuscript.

It's our absolute honor to introduce the FABULOUS My Lan! It has been such a joy to work with her on the cover for Asteria, a new-adult fantasy novel releasing this fall! (Isn't that cover AMAZING?!? 😍 ) My Lan is a designer and illustrator with a special love for book covers (which is not surprising since she grew up as an absolute bookworm). She studied Graphic Design in Madrid, where she learned cool things about composition, typography, and animation. In the UK, she studied Concept Art, where she learned even more stuff, like 3D modeling, traditional painting, and digital art. Thanks to all those cool things she carries in her know-stuff bag, she can create beautiful book covers with a wonderful mix of Graphic Design and Illustration. We knew right away that there was something truly amazing about her approach! Her skill, creative instincts, and strong attention to detail make her quite the unicorn. (Oh, and the Asteria font? Hand-drawn. So, so cool!) As a designer, she specializes in fantasy, YA, and Rom-Coms, but she's open to any interesting projects requiring breathtaking illustrations. As a reader, she loves fantasy and horror, and she spends quite a bit of her free time playing Overwatch. You can find her work on Instagram (@laolanart). She's AMAZING, and we cannot praise her work enough! #talent #indiepublishing #asteria #bookcovers #designer #bookdesigner #fantasynovels

We couldn't be prouder of Karie Luidens on the release of her debut book, IN THE END. Karie’s small-town childhood as a pastor’s kid surfaces many inevitable questions about the nature of life, love, faith--and the journey to find one’s place in this world. Kate Cohen, Washington Post columnist and best-selling author, calls it "a tender, vivid account of a childhood in faith and, ultimately, the loss of both." Per Kate, "Luidens writes of her emotional and intellectual journey to nonbelief with an urgency that is inspiring, even in the midst of her struggle. May we all be so courageous in questioning our understanding of the world—and may we do so with such compassion for ourselves and others. Truly lovely." We couldn't agree more. #memoir #booksworthreading #indiepublishers #booklovers

TODAY IS THE DAY. From Rachel Curtis: "After reading the first ten pages of Karie's manuscript, I knew I wanted to publish her book. Karie writes in a way that makes a person see the world in new ways, with fresh wonder and burgeoning perspective. Through lyrical prose, she demonstrates insight, compassion, and, ultimately, a raw authenticity that creates connection and understanding amid some of life's most difficult questions."
