🏢 Our project at 505 West Chapel Hill is featured in this month’s issue of Durham Magazine, highlighting the latest in downtown development. Originally built in the 1950s as offices for the Home Security Life Insurance Company and later home to the DPD, the building is now set for a nearly $300 million transformation by The Peebles Corporation. This redevelopment will include 354 residential units—92 of which will be permanently affordable—26 condos, 250,000 square feet of lab and retail space (including a grocery anchor), 791 parking spots, and a public plaza featuring walkways and public art. We're thrilled to help shape the future of downtown Durham! #PeeblesCorporation #DowntownDurham #CommunityDevelopment #AffordableHousing

It's great to see Legacy Real Estate Development LLC continuing to make a meaningful impact in Washington, DC, while also expanding into other markets. Our roots in DC have shaped our approach—hands-on and community-focused. We get deeply involved in the neighborhoods where we work, listening to residents and collaborating with local governments to ensure our projects address community needs. This method isn’t limited to DC; whether we’re working locally or in other areas, our goal is always to deliver housing that’s not just affordable, but truly aligned with the needs of the people who live there. We're determined and adaptable, always working closely with local organizations and governments to create developments that benefit the communities we serve.
This past Thursday, Donahue Peebles III, CEO of Legacy Real Estate Development LLC and EVP of The Peebles Corporation, participated in the Affordable Housing Summit hosted by CREW DC in Washington, D.C. on the development panel. Donahue addressed the critical challenges facing affordable housing in our nation’s capital, including the growing opposition to such developments. He emphasized the importance of the broader ecosystem that supports affordable housing initiatives and highlighted collaborative strategies to overcome obstacles, ensuring that affordable housing remains a viable solution. At Legacy, we recognize that these discussions are crucial in shaping the future of affordable housing, and we are committed to continuing our mission of driving sustainable solutions for communities in need. We look forward to more important discussion like this! Thank you to CREW DC for having us! #AffordableHousing #CREWDC #CommunityDevelopment #RealEstate #Leadership #LegacyRealEstateDevelopment

🏙 Could NYC Learn from Argentina’s Housing Market Reforms? In a recent article by The Real Deal, it states that Argentina recently took a bold step by eliminating rent control, and the results are striking. Housing supply in Buenos Aires increased by 170%, and rents dropped by 40%. While rent control can create winners and losers, Argentina’s decision has revitalized the market, making housing more available and affordable. Could a similar approach work in New York City? Ending rent stabilization could lead to improved building maintenance, increased competition, and more housing options. However, transitioning would require lifting restrictive zoning laws, overhauling wage restrictions, and reforming housing court processes to ensure fair and efficient resolutions. How do you think rent control changes could impact NYC’s housing landscape? Share your thoughts! 💡 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/ebzKmvSs #HousingReform #AffordableHousing #RealEstate #NYC #RentControl
