All #lawyers will tell you they're busy, but not every busy lawyer needs AI #automation. This insight was shared by our CEO James Lee at a recent panel cohosted by Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and Loyola University Chicago School of Law featuring industry experts Daniel W. Linna Jr. Evan Shenkman and Irina Matveeva. Most lawyers—even the busy ones—manage their work without relying on the newest #technology. However, some legal teams deal with such high-volume workloads that they need to assemble large groups of lawyers and paralegals to swiftly process documents. These setups, sometimes called "centers of excellence," function like factories churning through paperwork. High operational costs and employee turnover makes scaling and maintaining these teams notoriously challenging. It is specifically in instances like these e.g. repeat claims, demand letters, discovery requests, subpoenas (just to name a few) where #AI automation can be a real game changer. Where are you seeing automation impact #litigation workflows?

#Lawyers don't want a chat bot -- they want a purpose-built #AI solution. Fresh off #ILTACON and the great #wrapper 🍬 debate, CEO James Lee discusses the recent Bain & Company AI survey, the downside of GenAI-Wrappers for large #lawfirms and why our team works on building precision tools for busy professionals rather than Swiss Army knives. https://lnkd.in/dVC5E9Xb #lawyer #legal #ILTA #CIO

When it comes to #AI, lawyers will eventually tire of the Swiss Army knife approach. Serious legal professionals demand more than just a thin GPT wrapper. They’re looking for purpose-built AI applications that can automate complex, high-volume tasks with outputs that feel intuitively correct. Drawing from his high school experience working in a motorcycle shop, CEO James Lee illustrates the difference in the clip with Killer Whale Strategies founder Zach Abramowitz #LegalTech #ArtificialIntelligence #Lawyers #Automation #Innovation #LegalInnovation #LegalIndustry #TechInLaw #LegalAI

Great speaking to Zach Abramowitz again on his Podcast. Law firms are starting to experience GenAI malaise. It's a general market trend and a cautionary tale. https://lnkd.in/gJu3BZ7P According to a survey from Bain, lawyer satisfaction dropped 18 percentage points between October of 2023 and February of 2024. My take is that “GPT Wrappers” are not a good match for professionals with high expectations. I’ve seen this phenomenon before. Back when I was in high school, I worked in a Yamaha/Kawasaki motorcycle dealership. The service guys would only buy and use Snap-On tools. They said it just felt right in their hands. For professionals with really high expectations, the product can’t be close, it’s got to be just right. This is playing out right now with the flurry of wrapper products (and I know they hate this term) that are being adopted by law firms. The capabilities of transformers are amazing, but ultimately it’s a Swiss Army knife and over time (six months according to Bain) it loses its novelty, especially for professionals with high standard for their work product. That’s what you’re seeing in the Bain survey. At LegalMation, we’ve tried to follow the Snap-On ethos: a relentless commitment to being the best and setting the defining standard for professionals. We have worked hard to make sure that when an experienced litigator inputs documents into our platform, the resulting process and the output feels “just right.” If you’re going to be at International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) ILTACON next week and want to see more than just a bunch of wrappers — if you want to see purpose built applications for professional litigators — stop by our Booth No. 858.

That hot, new legaltech product—is it just a "ChatGPT wrapper"? Marketers are having a field day dissing tech companies that didn't do the heavy lifting on the back end. Reporter Isha Marathe talked to sources around the industry to find out more about how and why folks are throwing shade on certain, ahem, 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴. Sharing their thoughts were James Lee, the founder and CEO of LegalMation; Greg Lambert, chief knowledge officer at Jackson Walker LLP; and Nick Rishwain of Experts.com. Is your AI tool just a fancy wrapper? 🍬 That’s the topic of this write up in Legaltech News. LegalMation CEO James Lee told LTN “I see these companies that are selling a wrapper on top of a GPT model as a Swiss Army Knife. There’s a bunch of tools—a magnifying glass, scissors…—but after about a month you get bored and throw it in the drawer because it’s not purpose-built for anything.” Link ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g-dRgEu8 Going to #ILTACON in Nashville next week? Stop by the LegalMation booth to find out the diffference between a wrapper and purpose built AI application.
