A Life Saving Animal Shelter and Community Vet Clinic

About us

Our Mission To be the leading advocate for breeds such as pit bulls that often are left behind or ignored by other shelters. To provide high-quality medical care for all animals and to offer financial assistance to those pet owners that cannot otherwise afford vet services. To match responsible pet seekers with their next best friend in order to find the perfect home for the animals in our care. VISION STATEMENT We strive to become the best animal welfare organization in the Lehigh Valley. We seek to break down any and all financial barriers for those who seek to become forever companions for the animals in our care. We will work to reduce the number of homeless animals in the Lehigh Valley by educating the community, offering low-cost medical services, and through our adoption processes. We will continue to support the prosecution of any and all reported animal cruelty cases and rescue and rehabilitate all animals that suffer from cruelty situations. We are a 24/7 organization caring for over 200 animals a day. We provide food, medical care, foster homes, adoption services, lost pet services, cruelty investigations, community outreach, and education. Our team of Adoption Specialists works hard to ensure that our animals are adopted into loving homes that are just right for them.

Updates

  • With August behind us, we are thrilled to share our monthly impact report! We achieved a record-breaking 100% live release rate for dogs, and we take special pride in finding forever homes for some of our longest-term residents like Fefetia, Alice, Matcha, Super Fly, Thomas, and all the other adoption stories we have highlighted on our social media pages recently. Every member of our staff and volunteer team passionately advocates for the dogs that stay with us a bit longer than average. Through regular evaluations of our lifesaving programs and early intervention plans like training and enrichment, dog playgroups, and behavior modification medications to address shelter-based behaviors, we’re able to uncover the true personalities of dogs who may struggle in the stressful shelter environment and act out due to fear, anxiety, or stress. We are so proud of what we have accomplished, but the work never ends! We are committed to continuing to improve in everything we do. Thank you to everyone who has supported our staff with kind words and encouragement! #lehighhumane #LVHSProud Lehigh Valley Humane Society 640 Dixon St. Allentown, PA 18103 Kennel License 02552

  • A HUGE thank you to our volunteers from Capital Blue Cross and Lehigh Valley Chamber for all your hard work today! Your time and effort in walking dogs, creating enrichment activities, caring for our feline friends, and helping out around the facility have made a world of difference. Our shelter pets are content, happy and ready for a good nap. We cannot thank you enough! #lehighhumane #DayOfCaring #DayOfCaring2024

  • Grantmaker Foxwynd Foundation Invests in Lehigh Valley Humane Society to Save and Improve the Lives of Pets in the Lehigh Valley Allentown, PA (September 10, 2024) – Lehigh Valley Humane Society (LVHS) has received a $50,000 grant investment from the Foxwynd Foundation in support of their lifesaving work for animals in the Lehigh Valley. A $50,000 investment from the Foxwynd Foundation will support Addie’s Fund, which subsidizes the cost of services provided through the LVHS Community Vet Clinic program, enabling these services to remain affordable to our constituents. This grant investment will significantly offset the cost of expensive, complex surgeries for pets in dire need of care. The mission of the Foxwynd Foundation is to act as a lifeline for communities in need by enhancing access to key pillars of human dignity and potential such as healthcare, housing, and sustainable environmental initiatives. The Foxwynd Foundation DAF (donor-advised fund) funded the Foxwynd Foundation’s generous donation to Lehigh Valley Humane Society. "We are proud to support the Lehigh Valley Humane Society’s lifesaving work. By investing in Addie’s Fund, we help ensure that families can keep their pets healthy and at home, regardless of financial challenges. The Foxwynd Foundation is dedicated to enhancing access to essential services, and we are excited to partner with LVHS in making a difference for pets and their families,” said Pamela Villagra, Foxwynd Foundation.  “We at the LVHS are very appreciative of the Foxwynd’s Foundations support and belief in our mission. Support from the Foxwynd Foundation means the LVHS Community Vet Clinic is able to provide crucial veterinary care to owned pets so that they can stay in the homes where they are loved and where they belong. No one should have to say goodbye to their pet when the only obstacle to lifesaving treatment is the cost,” said Hal Warner, CEO of Lehigh Valley Humane Society. Lehigh Valley Humane Society is a nonprofit organization that not only serves abandoned and abused animals in need; it also provides a variety of pet care resources to the families of owned pets at affordable, accessible prices. In 2024, the Lehigh Valley Humane Society took in almost 3,000 homeless animals and provided $250,000 in financial assistance to families with pets in need of veterinary care through its Community Vet Clinic program.
