In the early 1960s, F. Beach Leighton embarked on a journey that would shape the landscape of geotechnical consulting. Armed with passion, expertise, and a vision, he founded F. Beach Leighton and Associates (FBLA) as a sole proprietorship in 1961. From his humble home office and with just seven employees, he provided engineering geology services, laying the groundwork for what would become an enduring legacy: Leighton, as we know it today. In 1974, FBLA transformed into Leighton and Associates, Inc., setting up its new headquarters in Irvine. The firm’s services expanded to include soils engineering, ensuring a comprehensive approach to geotechnical challenges. Simultaneously, they delved into the fascinating intersection of geological sciences and environmental consulting. In 2002, Leighton Consulting, Inc. was formed to serve public infrastructure and commercial development projects—this entity has become the largest part of our business operations. This growth resulted in a staff of more than 180 employees across eight southern California offices, all serving the region with expert consulting services. In March of 2023, we made the strategic decision to join the Verdantas team. By joining Verdantas, we have expanded their geotechnical and geologic offerings and established their presence in California. With the support of Verdantas, we can now offer our clients a suite of environmental, engineering, integrated technology, and flow labs services. Today, as we prepare to transition formally to the Verdantas name, we are confident that we, as Verdantas, will continue to be your go-to for geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, materials testing, special inspection services, and so much more! Loma Ridge (along the SR-241 in Irvine) experienced a landslide caused by historic heavy rains in the winter of 2005. This natural disaster posed a significant threat to the highway and its safety and demanded urgent attention. Cue our geologic/geotechnical team who stepped in to action to address the situation promptly. Our comprehensive efforts aimed to secure the SR-241 and protect against future slope movement. By utilizing our expertise in the field and effective collaboration with stakeholders, we helped ensure the safety of travelers and the integrity of the highway. Interested in the details?
