Leistritz Extrusion manufactures co-rotating, intermeshing twin screw extruders (TSEs) with screw diameters from 12 to 260 millimeters, and supplies systems for compounding, devolatilization, reactive processing, foaming and direct extrusion. Areas of specialization include: compounding of concentrate and hi-temperature/filled engineering resins; integration of TSEs into film and sheet systems; and various life science applications for the medical device, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries. Here's an overview of his presentation, called "Managing Thermal Exposure and Melt Temperature in a Twin Screw Extruder." Twin screw extruders (TSEs) often process thermally sensitive materials, i.e. bioplastics. Factors like screw design, shear, pressure, rate vs. rpm, and residence time all contribute to the thermal exposure experienced by the material being processed. A thorough understanding of these relationships is important to be able to achieve a robust process with minimal degradation. A gear pump is a positive displacement device that enables precision pumping of a liquid or melt. You can use gear pumps to inject liquids into the twin screw extrusion (TSE) process section. You can also integrate them into the TSE front-end melt delivery equipment to build and stabilize pressure to the downstream filtration and die system. The U.S. economy expanded by 6.4% in the first quarter this year on a seasonally adjusted annual rate, according to analysis by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Plastic industry growth tends to track economic growth measured by gross domestic product.
