I am so thrilled to attend the Carbon Free Cities: Climate Action in the Built Environment conference at the United Nations headquarters early morning tomorrow. . #SmartLighting and control systems are the key to #sustainable #nighttimedesign. I will be glad to share ideas with these notable architects and #sustainability professionals. The half-day, flagship conference will delve into the latest advances in technology and practice, as well as the revival of traditional approaches. It aims to equip #urbanization professionals and #policymakers with the strategies needed to achieve net-zero urban development. Presenting at the American Planning Association NY Metro Chapter conference last week was eye-opening for all concerned! Shannon Hui Jenna E. Miller, RA, LEED AP BD•C and I focused on the opportunity to remind #planners of every type, that nighttime is an integral part of the day worthy of a shift from standard approaches to planning. We call it nighttime design. Last week's American Planning Association NY Metro Chapter conference featured a discussion on nighttime design. Shannon Hui, Jenna E. Miller, RA, LEED AP BD•C, and Leni Schwendinger. One important reminder on the importance of designing for nighttime: many people, not just overnight workers, have a commute that includes trips after dark, especially in fall/winter months. The session caught my eye on the program because (lesser known fact about me), I wrote my master's thesis on the regulation and economics that determine where nightclub owner/operators choose to locate their businesses (https://lnkd.in/eBWsa8PR)
