This week, we hosted our first Summer Institute, a week of free professional development workshops for educators led by our Educator Advisory Group teachers. Participants had a chance to network with each other, get a head start on their curriculum planning, and learn more about Charlotte's history through our exhibition and guided walking tour of Brooklyn. • #OnThisDay in 1937: Leon Levine, our museum's namesake, was born. As a businessman who founded the Family Dollar chain and strongly supported the work of non-profit organizations, his entrepreneurial and philanthropic contributions have made long-standing impacts across the Carolinas. Today, we honor his legacy as Levine Museum of the New South thrives thanks to the dedication of Leon and Sandra Levine.
