I recently had the privilege of attending the FSREI Conference with Silvia! This was a wonderful conference where OBs, REIs, and medical students from across Florida gathered to share knowledge and innovate together. The sessions were truly inspiring, offering in-depth exploration of the latest advancements designed to enhance patient experiences and outcomes. It’s evident that fertility and reproductive medicine are constantly evolving, and I’m excited to contribute to this ongoing transformation with LEVY Health! 💙

Inadequate access to health services before, during, and after pregnancy is a key factor contributing to the U.S. maternal mortality rate being higher than that of other high-income countries. The recently published 2024 State Scorecard on Women’s Health and Reproductive Care by The Commonwealth Fund ranks Massachusetts, Vermont, and Rhode Island at the top based on 32 measures of healthcare access, quality, and outcomes. Mississippi, Texas, Nevada, and Oklahoma ranked the lowest. Abortion Rights: A Crisis in the U.S. The recent Amnesty International report, "Abortion in the USA: The Human Rights Crisis in the Aftermath of Dobbs," highlights the critical impact of abortion bans and restrictions in the U.S. Here are some key takeaways: ❗️Human Rights Violations: The U.S. is failing to comply with international human rights standards by denying and restricting access to abortion since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. 📍Geographic Disparities: Access to abortion now heavily depends on where a person lives, with 21 states enforcing abortion bans or severe restrictions. 🚨 Impact on Emergency Care: Restrictions have led to barriers in accessing emergency medical care, putting both pregnant individuals and healthcare providers at risk of criminalization. 🌈 Marginalized Communities Affected: These bans disproportionately impact Black, Indigenous, undocumented, LGBTQI+, disabled, rural, and low-income communities. 🩺 Healthcare Provider Challenges: Healthcare professionals are navigating a legal minefield, with some even experiencing panic attacks due to the stress of being unable to provide necessary care. The report calls for federally protected abortion rights, equal access to medication abortion, and emergency healthcare services.
