Today is Latina Equal Pay Day! This day marks the extra 10 months a Latina must work into 2024 to earn what a white, non-Hispanic man earned by the end of 2023. On average, Latinas earn just 51 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men. Even for full-time, year-round workers, this gap only narrows to 58 cents. Latinas are often overrepresented in essential but underpaid industries like farmwork, domestic work, and part-time jobs—roles that lack adequate protections and fair wages. Despite their vital contributions to the U.S. economy, these women continue to face steep wage disparities. At Liberty Law, we stand with Latinas in the fight for pay equity. Recognizing International Equal Pay Day   Every year on September 18th, we observe International Equal Pay Day, established by the United Nations in 2019 to highlight the ongoing fight for pay equity. Since the passage of the federal Equal Pay Act in 1963, progress has been made, with the average working woman now earning 84 cents for every dollar made by a man. However, a significant gap remains, particularly for women of color, who often face even greater disparities.   While we celebrate these strides, we must also acknowledge that the fight is far from over. Globally, women earn about 20% less than men, and experts project true gender pay equity won’t be achieved until 2056. This is why we remain committed to advocating for equal pay for work of equal value.   At Liberty Law, we stand with those fighting for pay equity, both in California and worldwide.
