Is today’s financing model aligned with the rapid acceleration of technology, the evolving investment landscape, and the dynamics of the acquisition and exit environment? In this clip, Adam Rosenwach, Chief Business Officer at Deerfield Catalyst, discusses how the traditional financing model needs a shift towards more entrepreneurial thinking. He emphasizes the need for both investors and entrepreneurs to align incentives and adopt new approaches, like the build-to-buy model. As Adam puts it, "There’s a complete mismatch of incentives when VCs want to put as much money into a company as possible, while strategics don’t want to spend as much on an acquisition. Why aren’t we working together to bring in the right amount of capital for a set acquisition price to drive progress and give young entrepreneurs the chance to build a track record?" To dive deeper into this discussion, watch the full LSI Europe ‘24 panel, "Training and Supporting the Next Wave of Entrepreneurs Through Mentorship and Capital." The panel features insights from leading experts on mentorship, venture capital, and strategies to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in Medtech. Lymphatica Medtech (#LSIAlumni) raised a €17.9M Series B funding round co-led by Panakes Partners, TechWald Next S.p.A., and CDP Venture Capital’s Digital Transition Fund. A new relationship that led to this deal was built last year at LSI Europe ‘23: “Lymphatica has developed the first clinical solution for a huge unmet need - lymphedema, affecting tens of millions of patients in the US and EU alone. I met Lymphatica at LSI Europe '23 in Barcelona. LSI helped me discover the opportunity and exchange ideas with potential co-investors about the disease and solution.” - Alessio Beverina, Co-Founder & General Partner at Panakes Partners The round also included participation from OCCIDENT, Zürcher Kantonalbank, Club Degli Investitori, and existing investor High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF). The company intends to use the funds to accelerate the clinical development and validation of LymphoDrain, an implantable device designed to treat lymphedema, a chronic vascular condition that currently has no cure and affects millions worldwide. Congratulations to Marco Pisano, Co-Founder and CEO, and the entire Lymphatica Medtech team on this tremendous milestone in their commitment to significantly improving the well-being of patients suffering from lymphatic diseases.

AccurKardia (#LSIAlumni) has received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for AI-powered, ECG-based aortic valve stenosis screening software. This achievement represents a significant step forward in AccurKardia’s mission to broaden the role of ECGs as a comprehensive biomarker, aiming for earlier detection and more effective management of aortic stenosis. Traditionally, aortic valve stenosis is diagnosed through physical exams, auscultation, and echocardiography, but challenges like limited symptom recognition, lack of heart murmurs, and restricted access to diagnostic tools can lead to missed cases. AccurKardia’s software leverages existing ECG data from a center’s EHR system to identify patients at risk for aortic valve stenosis, seamlessly integrating AI-powered screening into current workflows to enhance the chances of timely intervention and transform how we identify and treat this condition, making advanced care more accessible and proactive. Congratulations to LSI Alumni Juan C Jimenez, Mohamed Sadeq Ali, Moin Hussaini, and the entire AccurKardia team on this major milestone. To catch the latest from AccurKardia, tune into Juan Jimenez and Moin Hussaini’s Studio Interview and presentation from LSI USA ‘24 to learn more about AccurKardia’s recent progress.
