Last week, CMS issued new proposed pricing for 132 new laboratory test CPT codes on the Clinical Lab Fee Schedule. Public comments on these crosswalk/gapfill proposals will be accepted by CMS through October 25. 👀 As we recently noted, the proposed pricing follows a move from Congress to delay 2025 payment reductions for clinical lab tests under PAMA repricing, meaning existing rates will again be frozen. ✔ Additionally, CMS also released final 2024 gapfill pricing for impacted 27 codes. Don't hesitate to reach out to our RCM experts directly if you have questions about these changes or utilizing new codes once they are finalized. 🤝 #clinicallaboratory #CMS #CLFS #medicalbilling

After a flurry of activity and commentary earlier this year on the FDA's new rules for regulating laboratory developed tests, the conversation has slowed in recent months as the lab community waits to see whether the rule will survive legal challenges and political headwinds. For more on where the issue stands currently, including pending litigation and ongoing areas of concern for labs, check out this excellent overview below from Jane Pine Wood and the New York State Clinical Lab Association. #LDT #FDA #laboratorytesting

According to CMS data, the number of new #CLIA labs has slowed significantly since the height of the Covid pandemic. For example, as of June 30, 8,500 new CLIA facilities have been certified by CMS, which is on track for less than half of the 37,000 total certifications in 2021. Does this shift represent a return to normal, or is it a more noteworthy trend to follow? Lighthouse President Jon Harol weighs in on the issue below for 360Dx. ICYMI: Yesterday, we helped break news that PAMA cuts will again be delayed in 2025 as part of our webinar with the National Independent Laboratory Association. At the behest of lab stakeholders, Congress attached the delay to the Continuing Resolution that will fund the federal government through Dec. 20 and is now awaiting President Biden's approval. Without this measure, some labs would have been required to report private payer data from 2019 and experience corresponding rate reductions of up to 15% for many CLFS tests. This is a huge relief for laboratories as the industry continues to work to advance a solution that will fix the PAMA reporting process and create a more sustainable framework for establishing CLFS rates moving forward. #clinicallaboratory #PAMA #laboratorymedicine #continuingresolution

Heads up! 📣 On October 1, #UnitedHealthcare is launching a national Gold Card program, which will allow qualifying care provider groups to follow a simple notification process for eligible procedure codes as opposed to completing the prior authorization process. This advance notification will confirm eligibility and network status and will not require clinical information. Gold Card status will apply across UnitedHealthcare’s Commercial, Individual Exchange, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid plans, according to CAP, who has applauded the move. ✅ To be eligible for gold card status, practices must show a prior authorization approval rate of 92% or higher for two consecutive years. If you're interested in viewing your status, provider groups can do so via the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal. 👀 #priorauthorization #laboratorymedicine #UHC

It's no secret several factors are currently driving reductions to reimbursements for laboratory services. From annual Medicare and clinical lab fee schedule reductions to payer utilization policies and other limitations, lab owners and leaders must be more diligent than ever while working to safeguard their revenue. Fortunately, there are actionable steps labs can take to advocate for legislative fixes while also implementing steps to maximize their revenue and avoid denials. Join us for this upcoming webinar as we welcome policy advocates from the National Independent Laboratory Association to discuss the reimbursement landscape in detail. We'll also welcome experts from our RCM Solutions Team to review steps labs can take to minimize the impact to their bottom lines as the industry continues to push back against these onerous cuts. #medicare #laboratorymedicine #medicalbilling #PAMA #SALSA
