In our case, we took the critical genes of the LAL cascade (horseshoe crab genes) and recombined them into a bacterial expression vector so that the bacteria could generate the gene products (proteins), rather than the crab. In our case, we'll have four bacterias, each one expressing a protein of the cascade, and recombine them to create the final rLAL product.
