It seems that many in the SEO community are once again confused about the value of links because Gary from Google said that links "are not that important" at a recent event, a statement that he later retracted 🙄. I get it, when someone from Google makes a controversial statement about a core SEO principle, it's bound to create a stir. Steve Toth, Fery Kaszoni, Christoph C. Cemper, Jeremy Moser, Sara Taher, Chris Tzitzis, Charles Floate, Karl Kangur, and many others provided great commentary on this. I spent some time with Tim Soulo from Ahrefs in New York last week, and we actually chatted about this very topic. Who would have thought it would be so timely? Here is Tim's take on the question, "Are links an important ranking factor?" 👇 P.S. In upcoming posts, I’ll share more interviews with top industry voices, as well as my own learnings from 11 years at Pitchbox and two decades building online businesses.
