Congratulations to team member Frank Mindrup, who was part of the 1998 Air Force Football team that is being inducted into the 11th Athletics Hall of Fame Class tonight! When looking back on his time with the team, here was one of Frank's biggest memories: "My first start was October 19, 1996 against Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. They were ranked #7 in the nation and we weren’t really expected to be much competition. That was the loudest game I ever played in. I couldn’t hear anything said on the field and had to try and read the quarterback’s lips when he called the plays. I was playing left tackle that game and had to hold hands with the guard next to me and move when he moved because I couldn’t hear the snap count. On the third play from scrimmage, I blocked the Defensive End and the collision was so violent that I fractured my collarbone. I played the rest of the game and the rest of the season through the pain, not missing a snap for it. We ended up taking Notre Dame to overtime that day. In overtime our defense went first and forced a turnover. Our offense came in and ran a few plays before kicking a field goal to win the game 20-17. That stadium went from the loudest stadium I had ever played in, to one so quiet you could almost hear a pin drop except for us on the field and our small contingent of cadets that were in a corner of the stadium. That game set the tone for many of the players on my team. We carried that attitude that we could play with anyone and went 10-3 in 1997 and 12-1 in 1998, losing one game by a single point to TCU (LaDanian Tomlinson was a major part of that team); we won the Commander in Chief’s trophy beating both Army and Navy and won Air Force’s only outright WAC conference title in 1998."
