Ageism Awareness Day is an opportunity to draw attention to the impact of ageism in our society and how we can reframe aging in our communities. As we age, it’s crucial to remain vigilant about our health, including our cognitive health. But it's equally important to remember that aging doesn’t automatically mean cognitive decline or dementia. Here are a few key points to keep in mind: ▶ Stay Alert to Changes: Be mindful of signs of dementia, but don't assume someone has it based solely on their age. Factors like medications or mental health can also affect memory. ▶ Get Screened Early: Routine screenings for cognitive health starting at age 55 are essential. Early detection can lead to better management of any underlying conditions. ▶ Respect and Empathy: Approach every individual with respect, free from assumptions. Together, we can break the cycle of ageism and support healthy aging! Join Linus Health on #AgeismAwarenessDay on Oct. 9 to bring attention to the issue of ageism in our society. Let’s #TalkAboutAgeism! https://lnkd.in/gyWWHA_s I #AgeismAwarenessDay #TalkAboutAgeism #CognitiveHealth #BrainHealth

In a recent interview with Pharmacy Times’ Gillian McGovern, Linus Health Chief Strategy Officer John Showalter, MD, MSIS, highlighted the critical role of early detection in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and the transformative potential of digital technology in this area. Traditional paper-based cognitive assessments often lack the sensitivity needed for early identification, whereas digital cognitive assessments can significantly improve accuracy. Dr. Showalter pointed out that pharmacists can be pivotal in referring patients for digital cognitive screenings if they think someone might be showing early signs of a cognitive issue–especially when it comes to older patients taking antidepressants. Advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning are set to enhance cognitive screening, with promising technologies on the horizon that analyze hearing as well as voice and speech patterns to identify early signs of cognitive impairment. https://lnkd.in/gvvi_nmt I #MildCognitiveImpairment #Dementia #BrainHealth #AlzheimersDisease

A new Boston Globe piece follows the story of Tony Downs, a brilliant attorney diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s who began to experience memory lapses in his 50s, ultimately leading to his premature retirement. As his condition worsened, he and his wife turned to the Alzheimer’s disease drug Leqembi, which they hoped would slow his cognitive decline. Though the treatment’s effects were uncertain, they felt compelled to try everything possible–cherishing the remaining time they had together, even as Alzheimer's continued its inexorable toll. As we learn more about the expanding arsenal of drugs to treat earlier-stage cognitive impairment, Linus Health emphasizes the importance of providers, including PCPs, starting digital cognitive screening at age 55. Early detection of mild cognitive impairment enables lifestyle interventions and potential drug therapies to have the greatest impact. https://lnkd.in/ghUaGS3r I #AlzheimersDisease #Leqembi #BrainHealth #Dementia #CognitiveHealth
