Our Contra Costa College Physical Education & Kinesiology Renovation project is officially LEED Silver certified! The Lionakis team envisioned ways to strategically and cost-effectively transform the existing buildings into a cohesive and updated PE and Kinesiology hub. To achieve LEED Silver certification, our team employed several sustainability strategies including encouraging alternative transportation, reducing heat islands, water efficiency, optimizing energy performance in the buildings, building re-use, and healthy indoor air quality.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month! Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the body can't produce or use insulin properly, resulting in high blood sugar levels. According to the American Diabetes Association, 38.4 million Americans have diabetes including 2 million Americans who have type 1 diabetes. At Lionakis we have multiple staff members who are affected by diabetes and in past years, the Lionakis Foundation has supported Breakthrough T1D, formerly JDRF.

Our graphic designer, Valentina Duong, had the opportunity to be part of Harris & Associates's recent Marketing Shadow Day. Thank you for including us in this great event!
Harris & Associates recently hosted Marketing Shadow Day, an event dedicated to giving back to our local communities and investing in the next generation of professionals in the A/E/C marketing space. A big thank you to our own Joseph Ramot and Valentina Duong from Lionakis for presenting, and to our guest students—Tyler Lee, Victoria Rodriguez, Nelly Rudey, and Amy Kutran—from California State University-Sacramento’s graphic design program for joining us! Special thanks to Harris’ Rosaymar Garcia for providing support for the event! #AEC #Marketing #GraphicDesign #Creativity #CSUS #Sacramento #Lionakis #WeAreHarris

Project Highlight Throwback! The Orange County Juvenile Hall Multipurpose Rehabilitation Center, completed in 2022, replaced the aging and inadequate Visitation Center with a new, flexible multi-purpose space and gymnasium to provide opportunities for youth to participate in recreational, vocational, education, dining, and social activities. The new facility expands the capacity of existing rehabilitation programs, treatment spaces, and services and allows the County to improve the continuity and effectiveness of County staff and community-based organizations. We take great pride in this project and how it has impacted the youth in our community. This project is also 2023 AIA Orange County Design Awards Citation Award Winner!

We won an Award of Merit in the Higher Education/Research category from Engineering News-Record for our Las Positas College Public Safety Complex / Advanced Manufacturing and Transportation Project! The complex replaced outdated facilities and houses multiple Career Technical Education (CTE) programs including Fire Technology, Emergency Services, Auto Technology, Welding, Advanced Manufacturing, and Administration of Justice. Since the project site sits away from the campus core to accommodate the training needs of these vocational programs, our design emphasizes indoor and outdoor gathering spaces so students have comfortable places to relax or study. Congrats to the other nominees and award winners! Last Saturday evening, the California Firefighters Memorial opened just in time for their annual memorial service. The event was highlighted by a service at the convention center, followed by a procession to the Memorial site in Capitol Park by the family members of fallen firefighters from the past year. Thousands of firefighters, fire trucks, and civilians gathered to witness the procession, which included a flyover by Cal Fire planes and helicopters. Working on this project with our design-build partner, Turner Construction Company, and Romos Studios was an exciting and rewarding experience. Witnessing the memorial's significance during the event and seeing people engage with the various monuments truly validated the project team’s efforts. California Fire Foundation
