European growth investor Sprints and Styria Media Group AG have entered into a strategic partnership to jointly own and drive the development of willhaben, Austria's digital consumer marketplace. This landmark collaboration combines Sprints' extensive expertise as an investor in customer-focused technology businesses in Europe with Styria's prominent position as a leading media and digital company in Austria. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant regulatory authorities. The unveiling of DeepSeek led to major reverberations across the TMT sector last week, but it certainly wasn’t the only key event, as the first earnings season of 2025 is officially in full swing. A few themes/updates that we would highlight from last week's earnings reports include:   * Telcos had a blow-out qtr on unit metrics…AT&T’s postpaid wireless phone net adds finished a comfortable +10.1% above consensus forecasts and T-Mobile’s closed +5.6% above thanks in part of their efforts in the Biz market. T-Mobile’s +428k high-speed internet net adds beat Street estimates by +5.2% and AT&T’s +123k total broadband net adds topped expectations by a wide +148.0% * On the flipside, cable felt the heat of that telco competition as it led to greater than expected b-band losses at Comcast and Charter * Meta’s core business is benefitting from AI-driven improvements and within its Family of Apps, the average price per ad increased +14% y/y in Q4 vs cons +6.1% y/y * Threads now has 320mn+ MAUs and is expected to reach 1bn users “over the next several years” * Meta has a lot is riding on 2025 as it relates to new priorities…it will be a pivotal year for Meta AI, the potential development of a mid-level engineering AI agent, the trajectory of its Smart glasses and the Metaverse, among other things * Comcast’s theme parks are back on track… segment revs were flat y/y which is an improvement from the down -5% and -10.6% in Q3 and Q2 respectively; Epic is expected to be a big driver this year * Peacock losses improved by $1bn in 2024 and should make “continued improvement” in 2025 * I could go on and on…   See below for what we covered in last week’s edition.
