We had a fantastic experience at the XPRIZE Wildfire Summit in Salt Lake City, Oct 13-17th, as a semifinalist of the XPRIZE Wildfire Challenge. We participated along with our Fire Foresight teammates Indicium Dynamics, Taz Drone Solutions, and Robotics Cats. Our Business Strategy Manager, Rishabh Chaturvedi represented Little Place Labs, along with Rob, Andre, and Andrew Davies from the Fire Foresight team, presented how we plan to tackle the XPRIZE Wildfire challenge and showcased some of our joint capabilities. 🔥With the Yellow Lake fire already burning near Salt Lake City when the teams arrived, we were reminded of the urgency of our mission. The energy in the room was incredible, with teams from around the world bringing diverse and creative approaches to solving wildfire management challenges. The University of Utah provided a fantastic space for the event, which added to the overall experience. 📘Expert panels offered valuable insights into challenges around wildfire management, industry perspectives, and commercialization strategies. Shoutout to Scott Kaplan, CISSP for his incredible work mapping out the entire fire industry—universities, agencies, companies, and everything under the fire family — into one place, which helped us all see the bigger picture during the discussions. The day wrapped up with an amazing Happy Hour organized by the XPRIZE team, giving everyone a chance to unwind, connect, and share ideas in a more relaxed setting! 📹 After Salt Lake City, we also visited UC San Diego to learn about the cutting-edge work of ALERTCalifornia (the largest wildfire camera system in the world!) . Frank and Falko gave us a fantastic tour of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering, and Qualcomm Institute - UC San Diego Division of Calit2, which was a definite highlight of the trip. This tour deepened our understanding of how surveillance cameras and sensor technologies are used for real-time wildfire monitoring in California.
