Live Authentically Today

Last week I asked my client in what ways he’s different now, compared to when he started working with me over 3 years ago. The first thing he said was “I’m picky now.” What he means is that has elevated his expectations, heightened his standards, and has experienced how the universe delivers at that level. Rather than just accept whatever work happens to come his way, (he’s an incredible fractional CFO who also does high-level strategic consulting), he now takes an empowered approach. He’s clear on his ideal client, and now knows how to attract them. He gets to do the CHOOSING. He decides where to put his time and energy. At first it may feel risky to NOT be picky. It may feel risky to say no to an opportunity that’s sitting right in front of you. But if it’s not aligned, not congruent with you and your core values, that “opportunity” could turn into a paid nightmare. Hold out for the best - in your personal relationships, in your business, everywhere. Trust yourself. Trust the process. Don’t fill the space with mediocre. On the way back from taking my son and his friend on a college visit, they were asking me questions about super deep concepts. They were asking questions mainly in the context of dating, but one universal truth I shared with them applies in any situation. Today I’m sharing that truth with you. Pain is inevitable, suffering is OPTIONAL. Read that again… Pain is inevitable, suffering is OPTIONAL. No matter who we are, no matter how hard we try, there is no way to avoid pain altogether. Experiencing pain is part and parcel of being human. We’re supposed to experience pain. Pain comes in many forms - physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. Of course it doesn’t feel good in the moment, but when there’s pain there’s always an opportunity to grow. When we choose to not do anything about the pain, we hold ourselves in a state of suffering. There’s always something you can be doing to be in the pursuit of feeling better. The list is endless. But feeling better and attracting more doesn’t happen by accident; it happens by intention. I don’t use the word “should” a lot, but I’m going to here. You should be investing in your health every single day. Our bodies are designed to heal themselves, when we provide the right ingredients. Ingredients being nutrition, hydration, movement, sleep, and a peaceful internal condition. When you work at those consistently, you literally create a biochemical environment in your body that is highly resistant to disease (it’s called alkalinity for those of you who are curious). People can spend so much time, effort, energy, and money spent just trying to restore their health. But the truth is that a little proactivity goes a long way. Last week Forbes put out an article talking about how curiosity just might be the most underrated skill in business. I couldn’t agree more. In October 2023, I released a video talking about how mastering curiosity WILL help create more possibilities in your life, personally and professionally. Nobody Said It Was Easy... Thank you, Coldplay, for this profound reminder. It’s not easy. Nothing worth having is easy. In every aspect of life, no matter what path you choose, it’s not going to feel easy. --Your health: eating clean and working out is hard. Being overweight is hard. --Career: working for someone else is hard. Being an entrepreneur is hard. --Decision-making: letting someone else make decisions for your life is hard. Standing in your truth is hard. --Relationships: Being single and creating a life you really love is hard. Being in a relationship and keeping it healthy and thriving is hard.
