The Exhibitions and Events Industry. Let’s Go from Invisible to Visible. The Exhibitions and Events Workforce Development Federation was founded in response to the challenges of individuals in our community network. We are made up of those whose livelihood comes from the work created by the exhibitions and events industry. By creating a centralized platform, the Exhibitions and Events Workforce Development Federation will help those in our community network find the support and resources they need right now and for their growth in the future. We work in partnership with other organizations to provide a central point to share the good works and advocacy being done by our many allied industry associations. By fostering collaboration, the six primary verticals within our industry – Corporate, Occasions, Fairs and Festivals, Performances, Sports, Political Conventions, and Fundraising – can unite around the shared objective of workforce development. This collective effort aims to establish the groundwork for a NAICS Code.

"You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone." Some of us may remember the opening of an old TV show "The Twilight Zone" with host Rod Serling, who would introduce each episode with a narration similar to the one above. This came to mind after reading my friend Marco Barozzi's latest, insightful article "The Rise of Multi-Sensory Experiences in Trade Shows" "Imagine walking into an exhibition where each booth is not only visually striking but has a distinct scent that triggers curiosity, a tactile element that invites touch, or even a small tasty sample that reflects the brand’s story." Marco discusses how to incorporate sight, sound, taste, touch and smell into trade show experience. "Attendees long for authentic, immersive experiences that they can’t get online." Marco states. Engaging younger attendees at trade shows? Consider the power of "experiential experiences." These live events actively involve attendees through interactive activities, immersive environments, and sensory stimulation. Such experiences create lasting connections with brands, appealing to younger audiences who prioritize unique and shareable experiences. A recent article in Exhibit City News reports on a new Freeman Trend, "Generational Shift: How Gen Z & Millennials are Shaping the Future of Events" "...For organizers, this is an opportunity to embrace innovation, adapt to new trends, and deliver experiences that resonate deeply with today’s audiences...." Janet Dell which also reported key findings with "Reimagine Immersive Experiences: "While 51% of organizers highlight tech tools such as apps and digital displays as a priority, 64% of attendees prefer immersive experiences." Think outside of the box....You are about to enter another dimension. A dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop, the Trade Show Zone! The Elevator to Success "The clock was ticking and we were about to be late, but part of my group was missing somewhere between the second and third floors! Luckily, it takes more than a stuck elevator to rattle a bunch of event professionals." Kimberly Kee, director, event marketing, RealPage Inc. Thanking my friend Kimberly for sharing her insights in a recent Exhibitor Group article. I recently participated in a panel discussion with Kimberly, organized by Tey Young, CMP, CTSM (TBD), to explore strategies for handling unexpected issues at events. In live events, challenges can arise, highlighting the importance of not just having contingency plans but also fostering a mindset that embraces innovative problem-solving for unforeseen circumstances. During our discussion, we delved into the significance of preparedness and adaptability when confronted with unexpected challenges at events. As emphasized by event planning expert Frank Supovitz in his book, "What to Do When Things Go Wrong: A Five-Step Guide to Planning for and Surviving the Inevitable―And Coming Out Ahead," having a well-thought-out plan and the ability to think creatively are key in successfully navigating unforeseen event issues. I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Frank about Crisis Management as part of my new Mercuro Event Industry Interviews. If you missed it last week, you can catch the insightful discussion here https://lnkd.in/e33GwTuy #EventPlanning #ProblemSolving #EventManagement #PanelDiscussion #EventProfs https://lnkd.in/ezcknDg4

Accessible by Design Ensuring that your booth is accommodating to attendees with disabilities often starts at the drawing board.  "By keeping our exhibits accessible to all, we're not only following the law – we're doing the right thing, period." Candy Adams CTSM/CEM/CMP/CMM/VEMM ~ The Booth Mom® I revisited an insightful article by Candy Adams CTSM/CEM/CMP/CMM/VEMM ~ The Booth Mom® in Exhibitor from a few years ago. As a parent of a disabled child, I've experienced situations where event inclusivity fell short. Planning events and designing exhibits with accessibility in mind is crucial. Our team at Genesis Exhibits prioritizes inclusivity in every design. In a recent interview with Rosemarie Rossetti, PhD, we discussed "Understanding Disability Inclusion." Sharing Candy's article with Rosemarie, she described it as "an excellent and comprehensive article about exhibit booths and ADA compliance!" Have you experienced an event that made you feel more inspired, connected, and energized than when you walked in the door? In the midst of the busy trade show season, consider the impact of leaving an event feeling better than before. With IMEX just around the corner in Las Vegas, prioritizing your health and well-being is crucial as travel becomes more frequent. IMEX Group CEO, Carina Bauer, “We want attendees to bring their whole selves to our shows. There’s no need to leave your eating habits, well-being practices and routines behind. We know ‘real life’ keeps going when we’re at an event - we’re still parenting our kids, caring for dependents and thinking about our endless to-do lists, especially when traveling. Key takeaways from IMEX include addressing burnout as a global concern, staying updated on wellness trends, engaging in vulnerable conversations, promoting social fitness, and providing spaces for rest and reset. The shift towards work-life integration over separation is becoming increasingly significant. For personalized insights tailored to enhance your show experience, take the Experience Profile™ Quiz. Gratitude to the IMEX team for prioritizing well-being and sustainability, making their shows not only enriching but also mindful of attendees' holistic needs. In the midst of the fall season of events and trade shows, it's crucial to remember Ferris Bueller's wise words, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." Reflecting on a recent visit to the doctor's office for a flu shot, I stumbled upon a quote that resonated deeply: sometimes, like a computer reboot, we all need to pause, relax, and recharge even if it's just for a few minutes. Taking a moment to step back, go for a walk, or simply pause in the midst of a busy day can lead to a fresh perspective and enhanced productivity. Recently, my friend Chris Griffin prompted a thought-provoking question: "As a boss or manager, what kinds of things do YOU do to help your employees blow off steam and reduce stress during the busy seasons?" Sometimes, a simple break from the routine, beyond a pizza party, can work wonders in boosting morale and productivity. For those seeking inspiration on fostering a stress-free work environment, check out Chris's insightful video post from last week: [Video Post Link](https://lnkd.in/e7FwEqTt) Let's remember to prioritize well-being, recharge, and approach challenges with a refreshed mindset. #EventIndustry #WorkLifeBalance #EmployeeWellness #ProductivityEnhancement Genesis Exhibits Marlys Arnold Dasher Lowe Laura Palker Jay Burkette Exhibitions and Events Workforce Development Federation EDPA - Experiential Designers & Producers Association Danica Tormohlen Claire Hoffman
