The Malden Collective is very happy to announce a new partnership with @RoseVillaSeniorLiving to launch the LiveWell Tech Accelerator. With this partnership we will be able to share case studies on promising new technologies with other senior living facilities. Our hope is to modernize the sector by making technologies that prevent falls and improve independence more available to more communities. I think ageism is at the root of our collective disinvestment in quality of care for older adults and the care professionals who support them. It's an "ism" that we haven't dealt with yet as a society -- and we need to, now. This is a great article about ageism in the health care sector featuring leading gerontologist Dr. Louise Aronson who wrote the book #Elderhood. Not only are residents of long term care facilities at risk of falls and injury, but so are caregivers. They can get injured when trying to prevent a resident from falling or when lifting an individual off the floor, or in many other situations, including aggressive behaviors on the part of residents. That's why several communities measured on-the-job injuries and workers' compensation claims over the course of a year during our LiveWell pilot. Amazingly, after doing LiveWell, staff injuries declined, and workers' comp claims declined as well. 📉 Fewer injuries mean a happier, healthier environment for both staff and residents and reduced insurance risks. This is the essence of the #LiveWellMethod – a win-win-win for staff, residents, owners, and insurers.
