2024’s first major Atlantic hurricane, Hurricane Beryl, made landfall today as a powerful Category 4 storm.
The eyewall of Hurricane Beryl was last reported as moving through the southern Windward Islands, with maximum sustained winds near 140 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. Residents in Grenada, the Grenadine Islands, and Carriacou Island should remain in shelter.
Jamaica has issued a Hurricane Watch for the island, with hurricane warnings in effect for Barbados, St. Vincent, the Grenadine Islands, Grenada, and Tobago. Beryl will retain its power as it moves across the Caribbean Sea towards Mexico. The storm is not anticipated to affect the U.S.
