♨ Hop harvest and drying season is so short- only about a month! As a result, the highly specialized kiln equipment gets deep cleaned and calibrated every year in the months leading up to harvest after the long hibernation period. Our Loftus Labs is wrapping up the end of our kiln automation calibration season this week, where our team goes to all corners of the Pacific Northwest to visit clients and help prepare them for harvest. This includes calibrating the controls for the burner and the fan that moves the air through the hops that fill the kiln bed. More to come once harvest hits! #hops #hopharvest #PNW #automation #calibrations

💡 2024 Hop Technology Series: It's pre-harvest calibration season! Learn more about the importance of Hop Kiln Automation with Aaron Westfall. ✂ After the hops arrive from the field and go through a few processing steps to cut the cones from the bines, they are evenly layered in a pile throughout hop kiln beds for drying. ♨ Giant fans and burners then work their magic and blow heated air through a bed of hops to dry them. Each variety requires a different level of heat and timing, so it's quite the art! Through the months of August and September we'll be highlighting various technologies for hop growers that are brought to you by Loftus Labs.
