  • Last week, we had an inspiring conversation with Ananya Badgayan, a final-year BAEcon Accounting and Finance student at the University of Manchester and former Asset Management Industrial Placement Intern at UBS. In the last three years, Ananya has successfully navigated her student career by working in diverse industries, from asset management to accounting to consulting. Passionate about helping others, she offered key tips to help you succeed. Here's a glimpse into our discussion: 🙌 Get Involved: Transitioning to a new environment can be tough. Proactively joining clubs, making connections, and taking exciting classes can ease the adjustment process. ⏳ Consistency is Key: Balancing studies and internship applications can be overwhelming. Dedicate time each day, even just an hour, and stay resilient in the face of setbacks. 🛠️ Industrial Placements vs. Internships: Both are valuable, but industrial placements often provide more hands-on experience and networking opportunities than shorter-term internships. 🎯 Balance and Structure: Maintain a healthy balance between academics, social life, and applications. Strategies like joining non-academic societies and structured routines can help. 🎨 Diversify Your Applications: Don’t limit yourself to one opportunity. Applying to various roles increases your chances of success. 💪 Stay Persistent: Keep applying, stay resilient, and trust that the right opportunity will come your way! Last week, we had the opportunity to have an empowering conversation with Bhumika S., Future Trainee Solicitor at Allen & Overy. Here's a glimpse into our conversation: 💫 📕 Research is Crucial: Thorough research about the firms is essential before applying to vacation schemes or training contracts. This includes understanding the firm's culture, practice areas, recent deals, and initiatives. 💪 Persistence and Resilience: Bhumika emphasised the importance of perseverance despite facing rejection in the application process. She mentioned her experience of facing rejection but continuing to apply and eventually securing offers. 🙌 Preparation for Vacation Schemes: Once accepted into vacation schemes, candidates should refresh their knowledge about the firm, its practice areas, and recent developments. Having questions prepared for the scheme and proactively seeking information during the scheme are also recommended. ☕ During the vacation schemes, Don't view your fellow vacation scheme participants as your competitors; be collaborative and helpful. Summer vacation is a great time to meet different people in the firm, so don't hesitate to contact people for coffee chats. 🤔 Choosing Between Offers: If faced with multiple offers, candidates should consider factors such as the firm's culture, practice areas, opportunities for international work, and technological advancements. Ultimately, it's a personal decision that should align with individual preferences and career goals. 🙅♀️ Common Mistakes to Avoid: Some common mistakes during the application process include not fully answering questions, failing to link answers back to personal experiences, and not showcasing non-legal interests and experiences. 🖇 Delve into our entire conversation: https://lnkd.in/eXbpApfN
