Earlier this week, we broke ground on what will be a brand new entrance to Grand Central Madison at 45th Street and Madison Avenue. Once open, this fully accessible gateway will make it even easier to access transit right in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.

About us
The Long Island Rail Road is the busiest commuter railroad in North America, carrying an average of 301,000 customers each weekday on 735 daily trains. Chartered on April 24, 1834, it is also the oldest railroad still operating under its original name. Thee LIRR system is comprised of over 700 miles of track on 11 different branches, stretching from Montauk -- on the eastern tip of Long Island -- to the refurbished Penn Station in the heart of Manhattan, approximately 120 miles away. Along the way, the LIRR serves 124 stations in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan, providing service for some 82 million customers each year, taking them to and from jobs, homes, schools, sporting events, concerts, beaches, Broadway shows, and the multitude of other attractions around the New York metropolitan region. Introducing the Avoided Carbon Calculator! This new feature on the TrainTime app allows Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad riders to see the environmental impact of taking the train instead of driving! The tool calculates the carbon emissions avoided compared to the same trip by car. Whether you’re a daily commuter or occasional railroad rider, you can now see firsthand how getting even one car off the road can make for a greener region. Happy Climate Week! #ClimateWeekNYC
