Distributed by Ultimus Fund Distributors, LLC. (Member FINRA www.finra.org) Investment in shares of a long/short equity fund have the potential for significant risk and volatility. A short equity strategy can diminish returns in a rising market as well as having the potential for unlimited losses. These types of funds typically have a high portfolio turnover that could increase transaction costs and cause short-term capital gains to be realized. There is no guarantee that this or any investment strategy will succeed; the strategy is not an indicator of future performance, and investment results may vary.

As we approach election day the future of deficits, our nation’s balance sheet, and interest rates are top of mind for investors. In our Q3 2024 Shareholder Letter, we take a close look at the promises made by both presidential candidates—tax cuts, housing incentives, and other federal outlays—with one key question in mind: how will the election outcome affect American investors? With the expiration of the Trump tax cuts looming and growing federal debt, the implications for the bond market, long-term interest rates, and the broader economy are significant, no matter the election outcome. Our letter outlines these key issues and what they could mean for markets in the months ahead. Read the full Q3 2024 Shareholder Letter for deeper insights into how we're navigating this period of uncertainty. LSOFX is distributed by Ultimus Fund Distributors, LLC, Member FINRA/SIPC.

One key aspect of LSOFX that we emphasize to potential investors is that the fund does not use leverage on the long side. Why is this important? While leverage can enhance returns, it also has the potential to amplify losses when markets move against you. This added risk does not align with the fund’s goal of compounding wealth over time. When considering an investment strategy, it’s important to understand whether leverage is being used and, if so, where and how. You can learn more about the Long and Short of Leverage in a Portfolio in our recent article. https://hubs.la/Q02Ry50L0 LSOFX is distributed by Ultimus Fund Distributors, LLC, Member FINRA/SIPC.

Looking to address the perennial problem of volatile markets? Consider the practice of short-selling stocks and creating a long-short portfolio. Two potential merits of adding the ability to short stocks are dampening total portfolio volatility (i.e., a risk management tactic) and generating additional alpha. Short-selling shares of companies in which you hold negative views instead of simply buying stocks that you expect to rise in value may, in the right hands, provide a valuable portfolio hedging capability through reducing market risk and potentially augmenting returns through adept picking of overvalued stocks. Learn more about the potential charm of short-selling stocks in our recent article. https://hubs.la/Q02Rx_9c0 LSOFX is distributed by Ultimus Fund Distributors, LLC, Member FINRA/SIPC.

Holding a diversified portfolio of equities has historically rewarded patient investors through the equity risk premium—around 5-6 percentage points over risk-free assets. However, returns can be highly variable, and market volatility often triggers emotional responses, leading investors to buy high and sell low. Morningstar estimates that investors typically earn 1.7% less annually than their funds due to poorly timed transactions, a gap that compounds over time. One potential solution? Including a long/short stock fund in your portfolio, which may help reduce volatility and mitigate drawdowns, making it easier to stay invested and potentially capture long-term compounded returns. Learn more about how long/short funds aim to protect portfolios during periods of market volatility here. https://hubs.la/Q02RxvK10 LSOFX is distributed by Ultimus Fund Distributors, LLC, Member FINRA/SIPC.

One of the key tenets of LSOFX is the belief that a successful long-term wealth-building strategy requires an investment approach that aims to deliver attractive compounded returns over time, while incorporating strong risk mitigation to minimize the impact of portfolio drawdowns (the mathematical mandate) and manage return volatility (the behavioral finance goal).
