About us

Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (LAFCU) LAFCU is a safe, secure full-service financial institution with comprehensive products and services, convenient account access, and professional, friendly, knowledgeable staff. We are always ready to form a strong partnership with our members and be their financial source for life. Founded in 1936 by Los Angeles City employees, we expanded in 2006 to allow membership to anyone living in the Greater LA area who first donates a minimum $10 to the Los Angeles Charitable Association, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit charity. The Greater LA area includes the counties of Imperial, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara & Ventura. In the year 2019 we reached $1 billion in assets and our 160 employees at our seven branches and corporate office serve over 70,000 members.   • LAFCU Wins “Best Places to Work” Award Glendale, CA (September 3, 2024) – On August 7, Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (LAFCU) was named one of Los Angeles Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work in Los Angeles.” LAFCU was one of 28 winners in the medium-sized company category for 2024. The categories of small, medium and large-sized companies had 108 total winners, and each one was assessed to determine its strengths and opportunities. LAFCU was recognized for its highly positive culture in which employees felt valued, empowered, and rewarded for their contributions.   • On 8/17/24, at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank south of downtown LA, 19 volunteers from Los Angeles Federal Credit Union helped assemble 3,400 mini-bags of potatoes & pears. In the photo, a $5,000 donation was presented to the Food Bank from the credit union’s charity, the Los Angeles Charitable Association, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit.   • LAFCU Awards $10,000 in Scholarships to Deserving Students Glendale, CA (June 3, 2024) - The winners of the 2024 Jack C. Mathews College Scholarship competition at Los Angeles Federal Credit Union were honored at a special presentation on May 15. Richard Lie, LAFCU’s President/CEO, and Anthony Cuevas, EVP/COO, presided over the event in the credit union’s boardroom with Mr. Lie awarding $2,500 each to four high school or college students pursuing higher education in the Fall of 2024. The four winners were selected from 37 qualified entries. Students were evaluated on their academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, community service and custom video. Each applicant submitted a one-minute video on the topic of how they would spend their $2,500 if they were to win a scholarship. The winners will attend either USC, Cal Poly Pomona, Loyola Marymount University, or LA Southwest College. The scholarship is named in honor of the late Jack C. Mathews, who worked for the City of Los Angeles for 40 years and served 34 years as a volunteer on the LAFCU board. Since 2006, LAFCU has awarded over $130,000 in scholarships to help 102 deserving students and/or teachers. PHOTO CAPTION LAFCU Scholarship Winners: The four winners of the 2024 Jack C.   • LAFCU Helps Build Homes for Habitat for Humanity Glendale, CA (May 23, 2024) – To help provide housing for deserving families, 16 Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (LAFCU) employees and their family members, along with a supervising crew & other volunteers, helped build parts of townhomes in the city of Azusa, CA on Saturday, May 18. Volunteers worked in groups to construct walls for the four 3- bedroom 2-bath homes in the 4-plex. During a break, Richard Lie, LAFCU President/CEO & Anthony Cuevas, LAFCU EVP/COO, presented a $10,200 check to Bryan Wong, CEO of the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity. This amount included $5,000 from the credit union and $5,200 donated by credit union members during a fundraising campaign in April. The funds will go toward helping deserving families build then live in a place they can call home. Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. It works in local communities across the USA and in 70 countries. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Families in need of decent, affordable housing apply for homeownership and are selected based on level of need, willingness to partner with Habitat, and their ability to repay a mortgage through an affordable payment plan. Habitat’s homebuyers invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, called “sweat equity,” working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners.
