Inspiring Latino children and their families to be lifelong learners and exemplary members of the community.
About us
Since the summer of 2001, Los Niños Primero has provided educational support and leadership programs to underserved Latino children, youth and families living in the Atlanta community. Los Niños Primero is the only Latina-led nonprofit in Atlanta that provides academic, leadership, arts and cultural enrichment to this constituency. Executive Director, Maritza Morelli, emigrated to Atlanta thirty years ago, from Venezuela. She is keenly aware of the challenges immigrant families face. Maritza understands the delicate balance the families strike to ensure their children thrive in public schools while preserving a meaningful connection to their heritage, culture and language. Throughout her 20-year leadership, Maritza has succeeded in cultivating a harmonious, cohesive and respectful community in which the families can learn, lead and excel. She has led the organization from one site with 17 children in 2001 to six service sites, serving 800 children, youth and families in 2020. Testimony to our longevity of serving the Latino immigrant community, is that we are now educating “second generation” students. Specifically, students from the inaugural class of 2001, are enrolling their own children in our programs. We provide students and their families with 6 distinct programs: academic pre-K, arts and cultural enrichment, early literacy, youth and family leadership, and sports. All educational and leadership programs are provided at no cost to the families. Our Mission: To prepare underserved Latino pre-school children for educational success by providing opportunities to develop their language, cognitive, social, and motor skills. Together educational success by providing opportunities to develop their language, cognitive, social, and motor skills. Together with certified teachers, engaged parents, and trained teen volunteers, we inspire a passion for learning. linktr.we/lnp2023

For this episode of my podcast #UpliftingPlaces, I encourage you to enjoy my interview with Los Niños Primero Founder and Executive Director Maritza Morelli. She started this nonprofit organization with 17 Latino students to provide a culturally nurturing environment for learning and fun. Since 2001, Maritza and her staff have measurably improved the lives of over 6,100 Latino children, youth, and families across Atlanta and helped to strengthen communities. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Telemundo Atlanta Role Model Hero award this week. Established as week-long commemorative week in 1968, National Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month offers a fitting time to recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latinx leaders to the culture and economy of our country and region. I cherish Maritza for her visionary, courageous, and compassionate leadership at Los Niños Primero. Through our interview, you will treasure her, too. https://lnkd.in/eCasmAwu #UpliftingPlaces #UpliftingPeople #StrongerMindsStrongerCommunities #ExcellenceInEducation

With strength, determination, and discipline, our young leaders have excelled in many ways, enhancing our legacy and embodying the qualities that make us proud. This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating their achievements. Since its inception in 2018, the Marta Barrios Mead Scholarship has become a cornerstone of support for Los Niños Primero students and youth volunteers, providing crucial financial aid to help them pursue higher education, stay in school, and thrive in their chosen fields. Your support is more than a donation—it’s an investment in future leaders like Cindy, Litzy, Luigi, and David. Together, we’re transforming lives.
