  • Members of our Emergency Communications Center (ECC) were presented with a United Citation Award for their actions during a significant incident that took place in July of this year. On the evening of Wednesday, July 31, the Loudoun County ECC received a 9-1-1 call reporting a gas leak inside a commercial building at 22445 Sous Vide Lane in Sterling. Fire and Rescue units from Loudoun County, Fairfax County, Prince William County, and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority arrived on scene and confirmed the leak was ammonia and observed numerous patients who had been exposed. Initially, there were dozens of patients who needed assistance, with more than 250 people on scene of the call. Throughout the duration of this incident, every person in the ECC on the Fire and Rescue side had at least one channel to maintain. In addition, the ECC staff continued to answer 9-1-1 calls, make notifications, and find additional units to send to the scene, as well as continue to maintain continuous emergency coverage throughout Loudoun County.
