Last week, Loureiro had the opportunity to exhibit our treatability services at the AEHS Foundation International Conference on Soils, Sediments, Water, and Energy at UMass Amherst. Director Dennis Keane, P.G. delivered an engaging presentation on back-diffusion's impact on performance monitoring the Dover Superfund Landfill, while Senior Project Manager Laurel Crawford hosted our Treatability booth. Laurel shares: "I had the distinct pleasure to present Loureiro's treatability laboratory services at the 40th Annual International Conference on Soils, Sediments, Water, and Energy in Amherst, Massachusetts, last week. This marked our first time hosting an exhibit booth at this conference, which opened doors for enhanced collaboration with fellow exhibitors, academic representatives, and consultants. Several team members attended this exciting event, which was held this past Tuesday at the Bushnell in Hartford. Last weekend, members of the Loureiro team came together for our annual community service event. This year, the project goal was to build ten custom-designed playhouses to donate to families in need. It was an awesome opportunity to combine creativity and employee engagement to support our local community! This year’s initiative reflects Loureiro’s engineering mindset of continuous improvement. “Last year, we used pre-made kits, but as engineers, we knew we could do better,” said Brian Cutler, P.E., L.E.P., Loureiro CEO. After holding an internal design competition, a winning design was chosen. The pieces to build this design were custom-made, and shipped to Loureiro's offices. The Plainville team had a great time constructing five playhouses, pictured here. Five more playhouses will be completed by Loureiro's other offices - including Groton, also pictured here. The completed playhouses will be delivered to local families selected through partnerships with the Plainville Food Pantry. The Connecticut Building Congress 29th Annual LeFloch Memorial Golf Outing & CBC Scholarship Fundraiser was a resounding success! Sold out! It was a beautiful day for golf and an enjoyable way to raise money for such a great cause. Proceeds directly support the CBC Scholarship Fund for students pursuing a career in the AEC industry. Loureiro is pleased to share that our very own Director Dennis Keane, P.G. will be presenting at the upcoming 40th Annual International Conference on Soils, Sediments, Water and Energy. The conference will be hosted by the Association for Environmental Health & Sciences (AEHS) Foundation at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst on October 22 at 2:00pm in Amherst, MA. The presentation, titled "Evaluation of Back-Diffusion on Remedial Technology Objectives and Performance Within a Complex Hydrogeologic System," will focus on how the complex site geology impacts the performance objectives of several remedial actions completed or in planning stages at the Dover Superfund Landfill. Loureiro's Stephanie Murphy, Keira Gay, Alessia Shillington, and John T. Sullivan took part in a fulfilling day of outreach at the 2024 Day of Caring last week! Hosted by United Way of Greater Waterbury, community volunteering events took place at several locations throughout the region. 71 volunteers from 13 local companies came together to contribute their time to hands-on projects benefiting local nonprofit organizations. The goal of the yearly Day of Caring is to bring volunteers together for a day of projects that directly enhance the surrounding community. From accounting clerk to Financial Manager, Maureen Regan has been an integral part of Loureiro since 2008. Her unique transition from engineering to accounting highlights a lifelong passion for numbers and problem-solving. With a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from UMass Amherst and another in accounting from CCSU, her path to accounting was driven by a change in passion. “I worked in engineering for around five years, and I found it interesting, but I wasn’t as passionate about it as I thought I would be. I started to take some business classes, including a class in financial accounting, and I fell in love with it. I love working with numbers. I decided to get a second degree in accounting, and ended up switching into the field.” The transition from engineering to accounting was smooth for Maureen, as she found that the skills she utilized in engineering were highly applicable in her new field. “I was very drawn to Loureiro because of the different engineering services they provide.
