Updates

  • Last month Nitinotes Surgical recently shared positive results from a pivotal study evaluating the effectiveness of the company’s EndoZip system. The results found that the system resulted in an average body weight loss of 13.21% at 12 months, in addition to several improvements in metabolic health indicators. In the era of Ozempic and other obesity drugs, the long-term impact of these medications on bariatric surgery remains uncertain. While no clear consensus has emerged, we anticipate that these drugs may cause short-term headwinds for bariatric procedure volumes. However, according to LSI’s Global Surgical Procedure Volumes database, the future of minimally invasive bariatric surgery remains strong. The total volume of these surgeries is expected to double by 2030. In 2023 alone, approximately 793,000 minimally invasive bariatric surgeries were performed worldwide. Over the next five years (2023–2028), the number of procedures is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.5%, reaching 1,144,000 surgeries by 2028. Across the 37 countries covered in our database, 31 countries are projected to see high single to low double-digit growth in the volume of minimally invasive bariatric surgeries performed. Of all the countries covered, Turkey, India, and China are seeing the largest growth in procedures being performed. Looking ahead, we believe that minimally invasive surgery will continue to be a critical option for patients seeking significant weight loss. Want more data on this market? • Today, we're diving into one of the new markets added in the recent MAP update: the Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring devices market. The ECG and EEG monitoring devices market is composed of critical solutions that allow clinicians to monitor and diagnose electrical disorders of the heart and brain, respectively. Of the two types of devices, ECG devices are far more commonly used given the increased prevalence of cardiovascular disease. While an ECG can be used in the monitoring and diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD), myocardial infarction (MI), and other forms of heart disease, these devices are most commonly used in the detection of arrhythmias. Worldwide, it is estimated that the prevalence of arrhythmia ranges from 1.5% to 5% of the general population, with many individuals living with asymptomatic forms of the disease. The use of EEGs is far more selective. These devices are used for the diagnosis of specific neurological conditions and are only employed when there is suspicion of a neurological condition. In addition, these devices typically require a visit to the clinic in order for the study to be completed. 📊 Here’s a quick look at the numbers: • The global market for ECGs and EEGs was valued at $5.0 billion in 2023. • From 2023 to 2028, it's projected to grow at a 6.4% CAGR, reaching $6.8 billion by 2028. The Global Market Analysis and Projections (MAP) database now delivers robust market data, share-by-supplier insights, and expert analysis across 27 major markets and over 200 technology sub-segments, covering every major global region. Our data is driven by our trusted U.S.-based Medtech analyst team, ensuring consistent forecast periods (2021-2031), standardized market definitions, and reliable methodologies. • With our newly updated forecasts covering 37 countries and over 200 surgical procedures, we’re diving into key Medtech markets. Today, the focus is on structural heart procedures. According to LSI’s Global Surgical Procedure Volumes database, nearly 1 million valve procedures were performed globally in 2023, with transcatheter approaches making up approximately 41% of these cases. For context, the aortic valve was the first valve to receive approval for treatment via a transcatheter approach in 2011. By 2030, we project that transcatheter valve repair and replacement will account for approximately 50% of all structural heart procedures. In 2023 alone, LSI estimates that 412,000 transcatheter valve replacement procedures took place worldwide, with the majority addressing aortic valve disease. Over the next five years, as transcatheter mitral valve surgery becomes more widespread, we project a compound annual growth rate of 8.5% in total transcatheter valve procedures, reaching an estimated 619,800 procedures by 2028. LSI’s Global Surgical Procedure Volumes database is a comprehensive way to assess trends in the volumes of surgical procedures performed across 37 countries. With historical data and projections to 2030, the database is continually updated and expanded throughout the year to help the Medtech ecosystem assess geographic opportunities, value the size of their target markets, and inform business strategy. • As part of our ongoing commitment to expand the platform’s breadth and granularity, we’re excited to announce the upcoming expansion of neurovascular content for our Global Surgical Procedure Volumes Database. Today, we're highlighting stroke treatment—a crucial focus area. Each year, around 12 million people experience their first stroke globally. In the U.S., while the incidence of stroke has been on a slight decline, the mortality rate has increased over the decades. Thankfully, advances in diagnostic and interventional solutions are helping to combat this trend. 📊 Here’s a glimpse into the data: We project that stroke procedures in the U.S. will grow at a steady CAGR of 2.1%, rising from 198k interventions in 2023 to 220k by 2028. Our expanded dataset will cover key stroke procedures, including: • Stenting • Thrombectomy • Thrombolysis • Bypass surgery • Embolization • Coiling For a deeper dive into our Market Intelligence Software Platform, visit our website or connect with our team today.
