The team at LSU Healthy Aging Research Center (HARC), led by Scott Wilks, PhD, have secured a $5 million grant to expand dementia-friendly training for healthcare workers in Louisiana and Mississippi. This funding will provide essential education for primary care professionals and direct care workers in rural and underserved areas, addressing the needs of 95,000+ older adults with Alzheimer’s in Louisiana and Mississippi. Through partnerships with leading institutions like the LSU School of Social Work, the University of Southern Mississippi and Ochsner Health, LSU is helping to create dementia-friendly healthcare environments across the Gulf South. This grant represents a significant commitment to improving healthcare access and quality of life for individuals and families facing Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
