Part of the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business, the Department of Accounting endeavors to produce graduates on every level who excel in their pursuits. We prepare students for careers in public accounting, industry, and government through required and elective courses in financial accounting, cost, audit, taxation, and internal audit. A key element of our department’s success is our outstanding faculty, which publishes articles in top academic and professional journals and writes textbooks and trade books. Additionally, our faculty members are active participants in the accounting profession. We offer a Bachelor of Science in accounting, a minor in internal audit, Master of Accountancy, and PhD in accounting.

Katherine Whatley, BS Accounting '24 and incoming Master of Accountancy candidate, spent the summer as an audit intern at KPMG in Houston. Her projects included working on the fiscal year-end of a large chemical company and closing out the quarter for an oil laboratory company. She was also able to attend an inventory account, where she tested the amount of chemicals at a facility. Through the internship, Katherine made friends and forged strong professional connections, often with LSU alumni, including Laura Broman, who will lead the firm's recruiting at LSU. She also earned a full-time offer with the firm. The Beta Alpha Psi president is eager to return to campus and use her newfound skills in her MAcc courses. “I have nothing but the utmost respect for my teams and KPMG after this experience!”

Ready for another Ourso intern? Accounting major Bradley Charrier is working at J&J CPAs in Metairie. "I worked extensively with the tax software Lacerte, preparing a variety of tax returns, including 1040s and 1041s. I also handled multiple EBITDA calculations for companies. Additionally, I have gained exposure to numerous financial statements through related coursework. Developing the ability to communicate effectively with clients regarding their returns has been invaluable for my professional growth. I am grateful for the insights I’ve gained into accounting career paths and tax knowledge during my time at J&J CPAs." Way to geaux, Bradley!
Congrats to Alexandria Nettles, recipient of a $15,000 Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) scholarship. Alexandria graduated with a BS in Accounting and will start our MAcc program in the fall. She serves as the public relations officer of our Beta Alpha Psi chapter and is working at HTB this summer. We are so proud of you, Alexandria!
