I want to empower everyone in my network to create their own amazing communities. Therefore, I'm sharing on LinkedIn how we hosted Toronto Tech Fest with over 10,000+ RSVPs in our very first year with $0 starting budget. 🤩 Vision: From the beginning we wanted to create an amazing experience that could scale and make a huge impact for the community. 🎯 Tactic: Make it super easy for hosts to create events, and easy for attendees to discover and opt into events. 💡 The Plan: Partner with the right platform that's built to drive growth and the right business model to get us there. For us that was Luma and the amazing team of Victor Pontis and Danqing Liu who are building a platform that made it viable to activate our community at scale with no initial budget. How? They focus on the key features that make the most impact to both hosts and attendees while getting rid of all the friction and fluff. 🗝️ The Secret: The Luma feature that clicked for us at Toronto Tech Fest was their incredibly powerful Calendar function. This Calendar not only lists and aggregates different events under one easy to find place, but importantly, it also created a cohesive narrative (tag) between events to let people know "Aha! This is part of something bigger!" The result was that as hosts promoted to their audiences, they not only drove traffic to their own events, but also to all the events throughout the Calendar! This was a gamechanger and a big reason for the huge turnout that we saw during the week. 🚀 🥡The Takeaway: Be ambitious. Have a plan. Find the right partners. Work your butt off. Earn the secrets.
