Baby Reindeer and Shōgun also saw notable shifts in their viewership trends after their Emmy wins. Since 2013, streaming has taken over, and cable viewership and shows have been dropping—down from 330 scripted shows in 2013 to just 139 in 2023. Netflix set the stage with bingeable content, but now, platforms like TikTok are shaking up the game even more. The big question: Can traditional media balance fan-favorite IPs with fresh content, or are we headed for a new era of entertainment? Paramount+ is leading the charge in terms of streaming success among legacy media companies, with 183 billion minutes watched since 2022. This is in contrast to other platforms like Warner Bros. Discovery's Max, which has struggled to capture as much viewer attention with only 50 billion views. Read more of Keelan Brown's analysis: https://lnkd.in/gpvQHbHE

Seven years ago, Prime Video bought The Lord of the Rings TV rights for $250 million. Since then, Amazon has spent about $800 million on the first two seasons of The Rings of Power, with a five-season plan. But, just as one does not simply walk into Mordor, one does not simply get people to watch their TV show on name alone. In its first weekend, The Rings of Power Season 2 drew 2.99M views across three episodes. While Season 1 was a hit for Prime Video, becoming its second-biggest title since 2022 behind Reacher, Season 2 hasn’t kept pace, with viewership down 70% in the first 11 days, despite releasing an extra episode. If Prime Video is truly committed to five seasons of The Rings of Power, the hope remains that audiences will continue to discover the show as new seasons are released.
