Meet Sejal, Luminator’s Application Engineer in Germany. After graduating from university in India, she decided to continue her education journey at Stuttgart University in Germany, which she believed would help her accelerate her career (and she was not wrong about it!). We asked her a couple of questions about her journey in the PCB design engineering field, and here is what we heard. 01- What inspired you to pursue a career in PCB design, and how has your journey in this field evolved over time? I was born and raised in Vadodara, India, and I completed my higher schooling education and graduation in my hometown. I moved to Stuttgart, Germany, 5 years ago to pursue a post-graduation degree, and after that, I started working full-time here as an Application Engineer. I was inspired by my father and brother to enter the Mathematics and Physics stream to become an Engineer. I did my Bachelor’s in Electronics and Master’s in IT with a specialization in Embedded Systems at Stuttgart University, which further opened a wide range of options for me to pursue my career. I personally opted for Hardware PCB design engineer positions as I am more passionate about microelectronics and how it leads to other prospects. 02- What do you like most about is your job at Luminator? As an Application Engineer, I am solely responsible for component engineering tasks. I am also in charge of ECOs (Engineering Change Order) requests. I design or redesign schematics and modify layouts according to the requirements. I develop application prototypes and do the necessary technical documentation for the board bring-up and verification tests. Engineering involves solving complex real-world problems. Many people are drawn to the challenge of finding solutions to those problems, and I think I am one of those curious to solve the quest. Engineering is at the forefront of innovation. It allows individuals to create new technologies, products, and processes that can improve our lives. Engineers often work on projects that contribute to society’s growth in different areas such as energy solutions, infrastructure, medical technologies, and the automotive industry. 03- As a woman in a predominantly male-dominated field, what challenges have you faced, and how have you overcome them? Be unique and yourself. Don’t try to be more manly than you naturally are just to fit in. Never hesitate to voice your opinions and provide your viewpoint on the subject at hand. Be clear about your expectations in terms of communication and behavior. Remain committed to your objectives and resist the temptation to let a negative atmosphere divert you. 04- What advice would you give to young women aspiring to enter the field of PCB design? Never be afraid of facing challenges; that’s how you grow from your mistakes and learn from your experiences. Thrive more on building your skills. Be proud of your success and the person you are becoming. #womeninengineering #PCBdesign #luminator #womenintech
