    Pretty awesome last two weeks between opening Sound Transit Lynnwood Link, attending the Planning Directors Conference, and then capping it off with recognition from Puget Sound Regional Council for the partnership with Trent Mummery and Patrick Ashman building awesome TOD Next step, finish the Imagine Lynnwood Comprehensive Plan!

    Last night, the Council adopted a proclamation for Hispanic Heritage Month. Council Vice President Julieta Altamirano-Crosby presented the proclamation, which was received by numerous dignitaries and community leaders, including: Deputy Consul at the Consulate of Mexico in Seattle, Gerardo Javier Guiza Vargas, and Honorary Consul of Spain, Luis Fernando Esteban. Maria Behrens, a dedicated Student Support Advocate, works closely with the Latino community in Snohomish County. She is committed to helping students achieve their dreams of attending college by creating programs and forming partnerships with schools and community organizations. José Luis González, a prominent journalist and TV personality, is a former Executive Producer for Univision Seattle, TV News Director of Estrella TV, and vice president of 76 Media. His work has amplified the voices of our community and brought our stories to the forefront. Jaime Mendez, a local journalist and former anchor for Univision Seattle, is the co-founder of Se Habla Media and Jaime Mendez News. He has been instrumental in shaping Spanish-language media in our region. Maria Anakota, a Master in Social Work and Geriatric Mental Health Specialist, serves as a Care Consultant at the Alzheimer’s Association Washington State Chapter. Her work is essential in supporting families navigating mental health and aging challenges. Representing Maria Casey was Azucena Cisneros Pimentel, as we honor Maria, an accomplished artist and founder of The Fat Brush Art Workshop. Through her artistic passion, Maria inspires others to explore their creativity. With degrees from the Universidad Femenina de México and Provence, France, she has become a leader in the arts, encouraging creativity and cultural expression. Lastly, Mujeres con Actitud Latina was founded in 2020 to empower Latina women, fostering growth, knowledge-sharing, and personal support. Their contributions to our community have been invaluable. Council Vice President Julieta Altamirano-Crosby asks the community to take a moment to celebrate these incredible individuals and groups for their leadership, dedication, and positive impact on our community during Hispanic Heritage Month.

    After years of planning and construction, the Lynnwood Link Extension is finally open, connecting our community with the rest of the region. We are so thankful for the scores of people who made this day possible, from the construction crews, engineers, and planners to the elected officials who helped secure the funding to make this project a reality. Most of all, we want to thank you! Thank you to our community members who have waited patiently for the Light Rail to finally arrive in Lynnwood for all these years. Thank you so much! Remember to join us for the Evening Celebration at all four new stations from 4 pm to 8 pm! See you there!

    Last night, the Council adopted a proclamation for Labor Day. Councilmember Escamilla presented the proclamation, which was accepted by Thor Konradsson of Skanska, who represents the workers contributing to the Lynnwood Light Rail City Center Station. Thor Konradsson expressed his appreciation for the recognition. Many workers are busy doing last-minute items as the station opens very soon. Thor commented that 3.7 million people-hours are invested in the Lynnwood Light Rail Station project!
