This past Friday, we marked a significant milestone for LYRIC: Center for LGBTQQ+ Youth - the reopening of the historic Purple House at 127 Collingwood Street! After completing the first phase of our capital campaign, we welcomed community leaders, supporters, and allies to celebrate this incredible achievement. 🎉
We were honored to have Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi join us, along with State Senator Scott Wiener, members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rafael Mandelman, Ahsha Safaí, President Aaron Peskin and many others who have tirelessly supported LYRIC’s mission to empower LGBTQQ+ youth. ✊
This project was about more than just a renovation. It was about expanding our footprint by 45% so that more young people could find a place where they feel safe, affirmed, and welcomed. The Purple House is a sanctuary and a symbol—a place where every queer and trans youth knows they belong. 🏳️🌈
With the recent upgrades, including a new ADA-accessible entrance, service kitchen, expanded meeting spaces, and improved air quality systems, we are ready to provide even more critical, identity-affirming services to youth from all backgrounds. 🌱
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible LYRIC board, staff, and capital campaign members for their unwavering dedication and hard work in bringing this vision to life. Your contributions have been invaluable in creating a space that truly embodies hope, resilience, and joy. 💜
To LYRIC youth: The Purple House is for you—a place to be free, feel supported, and empowered to thrive. 💪
We are excited for the future and the countless young lives that will continue to be touched by LYRIC in this welcoming and affirming space. 💜
