Recently, there is some good news for America’s lithium supply: “The US is on the cusp of a lithium boom after years of laying the groundwork for an electric-vehicle supply chain that doesn't rely on China.” https://lnkd.in/gsQCRfB8 The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) loaned $2.6 billion to Lithium Americas Corp., the company developing Thacker Pass, in northern Nevada, and another lithium mine in the state. And a project in California's Salton Sea started construction earlier this year. These sites, expected to come online between 2026 and 2028, would massively increase the US's lithium supply. https://lnkd.in/gddMWyRt "This essential loan helps us reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and secure America's energy future," said Lithium Americas CEO Jonathan Evans. https://lnkd.in/esi-5Exg “Federal researchers estimating last year that the superheated brine deep beneath the Salton Sea contains enough lithium to fuel 382 million electric-vehicle batteries.” #EnergyIndependence #AmericanManufacturing #DomesticSourcing #CleanEnergy #LithiumSupplyChain #ElectricVehicles #BatteryTechnology #DOE #ThackerPass #SaltonSea #SustainableEnergy #FutureOfMobility #USSupplyChain

Great interview with Lyten Chairman of the Board, Lars Herlitz. From CEENERGYNEWS: Lyten’s technology can definitely help address concerns about supply chain dependence on countries like China, both for the US and Europe, which are working to diversify their battery supply chains. In fact, without relying on critical minerals like graphite, nickel, manganese or cobalt, this dependence is drastically reduced. [Read full article: https://lnkd.in/gZxhF9FJ by Claudia Patricolo] “This is a major advantage of our chemistry,” underlines Lars Herlitz. “The materials we use are locally available and extracted in environmentally safe ways. Sulfur, for example, is a byproduct of many industrial processes. Our 3D graphene comes from a carbon sequestration process, transforming gas into hydrogen and 3D Graphene. Additionally, we can extract lithium from salty brines rather than through traditional mining methods, which is particularly abundant in places like Hungary.” #Lyten #LithiumSulfur #EVBatteries #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #EuropeanManufacturing #BatteryManufacturing

Today is a big step for Lyten! We're announcing our plan to build the World’s First *Lithium-Sulfur* battery gigafactory - and we are doing it in Reno, Nevada. We are locating the facility in the Reno AirLogistics Park at Stead Airport. At scale, the facility will be able to manufacture up to 10 GWh of lithium-sulfur batteries and will supply our rapidly growing pipeline of customers from automotive, micromobility, space, drones, defense, and stationary storage. This is just the start of our relationship with Nevada. The Nevada Congressional Delegation has been instrumental to the project. A heartfelt thank you to Office of the Governor - State of Nevada Joe Lombardo, Senator Jacky Rosen, and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, who have all been huge supporters of the development as part of their bold vision for Nevada’s global leadership in battery materials sourcing and manufacturing. It literally takes a village to build, supply, and staff a gigafactory. Key contributors to making the factory possible include Michael Dermody, Executive Chairman at Dermody Properties, Daren Griffin, A.A.E., President/CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, Taylor Adams President and CEO of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, Heather Wessling Grosz, CEcD, MA, SVP Business Development at EDAWN University of Nevada, Reno President Brian Sandoval, Karin Hilgersom, President of Truckee Meadows Community College, Thomas Burns Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development, Executive Director. And there are many more to thank!
