Rodrigo Torres, one of our amazing volunteers at the M4A Foundation, based in Porto Alegre, has been tirelessly working on the ground in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The state is grappling with severe floods that have impacted more than half of its cities, with some completely devastated. Hundreds of thousands have lost their homes, and the full extent of the damage is still unfolding. Despite facing personal challenges, he has been part of the rescue operations, helping those affected, and is now assembling a reconstruction project to provide free architectural projects and construction materials to those who have lost their homes. We, in New Zealand, understand this devastation all too well. Last year we faced Cyclone Gabrielle, the most significant weather event our country has seen this century. It reminded us that climate change is not a distant threat, but a present reality. This is a call to action. Let’s come together to support the people of Rio Grande do Sul.
