Enhancing the common good through philanthropy
About us
Madison Community Foundation's mission is to enhance the common good through philanthropy. Created in 1942 as Madison Community Trust, MCF helps people do their charitable giving their way, to causes they care about most. By starting a named endowment fund, giving to a Community Impact Fund, a fund that supports a favorite cause or nonprofit, or a variety of other funds, donors become catalysts for good today and for generations to come. As the community’s foundation, MCF plays a vital role in local philanthropy. MCF is unique in its deep knowledge of the community and philanthropic expertise. Together with donors and the nonprofits they support, MCF strives to help the Madison area become a vibrant and generous place where all people thrive. MCF is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) community trust, as designated by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions are deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Endowment fund assets are invested in either a broadly diversified or socially responsive portfolio. Charitable distributions can be made to any charity throughout the United States, and can benefit people and support charitable causes close to home and around the world.

MCF’s grantmaking focuses on investing in projects that will help the Madison community thrive now and for generations to come. The nonprofit organizations that receive these grants work diligently to ensure their new initiatives flourish and uplift the community. In our latest newsletter, we highlight three examples of exciting projects that MCF has been proud to support and watch flourish in recent years. We celebrate the launch of Madison Reading Project's climate controlled and wheelchair lift equipped Big Red Reading Bus 2.0, the success of the first biennial Harry Whitehorse Wood Sculpture Festival, and the grand opening of Centro Hispano's new home - Calli. These achievements highlight the importance of supporting innovative ideas that can make a meaningful difference in Madison. Read the full story on our website today: https://buff.ly/4gpGetn
