I had the opportunity to give back to the Michigan Political Leadership Program this past weekend by planning the cohort’s healthcare weekend. MPLP does an incredible job training future elected officials build their legislative and public policy approaches by working across the aisle and tapping in subject matter experts. It was an honor spending the weekend giving back to the program that gave me so much as a 2018 fellow. I’m so grateful for the time spent getting to know the state’s future leaders in the 2024 cohort. Paired with two full days discussing healthcare advocacy and public policy development, the role healthcare plays in our lives and in our communities, and how health stakeholders work together to invest in the health and wellbeing of Michiganders everywhere. Special thanks to the weekend’s co-sponsors Michigan Association of Health Plans and Michigan State Medical Society !
Our cohort could have spent all weekend talking Healthcare with our speakers. Thank you to Michigan Health & Hospital Association, Michigan Association of Health Plans, and Michigan State Medical Society for your sponsorship in our Michigan Political Leadership Program Health Legislative weekend. Thank you additionally to @Hon. Terri Lynn Land, Mark Huizenga, and Carol Glanville for taking the time to connect with our class on campaign and political work in Michigan. Thank you Steve Linder for your time and discussion on campaigns and fundraising. Our class is learning so much and thankful to each of our wonderful speakers. Thank you for your additional time, Dominick Pallone, Kate Dorsey, and especially Megan Blue for our healthcare legislative exercise.

📢 Exciting Update from the MIACE Initiative! 📢 The Essentials for Childhood Data to Action (EfC D2A) Project announces updates to the MI ACE Data Dashboard! 🔹 New 2023 Michigan Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) Data: The updated dashboard now includes fresh data from the 2023 YRBS, providing crucial insights from Michigan high school students. This data covers essential areas such as home and family dynamics, access to care, school environment, community conditions, abuse/neglect, chronic diseases, health risk factors, and mental health. Notably, new questions addressing social media usage and racial discrimination at school have also been added. 🔹 Updated Emergency Room Syndromic Surveillance Data (2021-2023): We have incorporated the latest data from hospital emergency rooms, focusing on suspected or confirmed child abuse and neglect, youth mental health conditions, suspected suicide attempts, and substance use problems. This data is categorized under abuse/neglect, mental health, and health risk behaviors for the year 2023. Each data point is visually represented in graphs, accompanied by a concise 'What do these data tell us?' paragraph to help communities identify patterns and make informed decisions. These enhancements are designed to support communities in preventing adverse health outcomes and building protective factors related to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in Michigan.
