The federal Weatherization Assistance Program has been helping reduce costs and increase health, safety and energy efficiency for low-income households since 1976. MaineHousing, in connection with the US Department of Energy and local community action agency partners, is proud to administer the Weatherization Program here in Maine for the benefit of our neighbors all around the state.

The new round of federal funding for energy-efficiency and weatherization updates for Maine homes, including the expansion of a program that will help convert more homes from oil to heat pumps was highlighted in a visit to Maine by U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm on Wednesday. The former Governor of Michigan praised the administration of Governor Janet Mills, Efficiency Maine Trust, and MaineHousing for leading the nation on heat-pump conversions. Westbrook Housing's amazing new Stroudwater Apartments were a key stop on the visit where Granholm was able to see and feel how heat pumps can keep tenants warm and COOL for about half the price of other HVAC systems. In an afternoon visit to ReVision Energy in South Portland, Secretary Granholm and Governor Mills spoke on a panel with housing and renewable energy leaders about the progress companies like ReVision are making in leading Maine to more climate-friendly energy sources while also creating a ton of jobs in the process!
