Will Search Engines Be the Next AI Product Breakthrough? ChatGPT's Search Functionality Challenging Traditional Search Engine According to multiple sources, OpenAI has created the subdomain search.chatgpt.com (currently inaccessible), potentially signaling its entry into the search engine domain and a comprehensive challenge to Google. OpenAI is expected to announce details of this search engine on May 9 at 10:00 AM local time. In one test example, when asked, "What are the top posts on Hacker News today?" ChatGPT's new search system can proactively access the popular pages on Hacker News, retrieve content, and provide summaries, rather than simply searching for the term "Hacker News top posts" on Google, which often fails to deliver the desired results directly. The new search feature of ChatGPT highlights the shortcomings of some current search and summarization systems. This new feature not only performs searches but also takes proactive actions based on queries, such as accessing specified web pages and extracting relevant content. Other search systems such as Bing Chat, Google Gemini, Perplexity.ai, and Lepton Search failed to provide satisfactory responses to such queries. They either lacked accuracy in their answers or could only state their inability to satisfactorily address the request. This disparity underscores the advantages of ChatGPT's new search functionality, which is more intelligent and proactive. Leveraging AI for Environmental Protection: Meta's Latest OpenDAC Initiative Direct Air Capture (DAC), involving the extraction of carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere, is widely recognized as a crucial tool in combating climate change. Despite its potential, widespread implementation of DAC has been hindered by the high cost of capture. Overcoming this barrier hinges on the discovery of novel adsorbents—materials that absorb carbon dioxide from the air—and scaling up DAC operations. Meta has introduced the OpenDAC 2023 (ODAC23) dataset to train artificial intelligence models. ODAC23 comprises nearly 40 million Density Functional Theory (DFT) computational results from 170,000 DFT relaxation calculations, focusing on the adsorption of carbon dioxide and water by Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) materials. Meta has also released benchmark machine learning models trained on this dataset.
