  • We were thrilled so many of you joined us for our 2024 Annual Maranyundo Celebration (in record numbers too!) in honor of Jane O'Connor. The hall was filled with longtime supporters, alumnae, and Jane's friends and family who came to learn about the exciting updates from the Maranyundo Girls School and the new Maranyundo Training and Learning Center (MTLC), a professional development hub for thousands of teachers across Rwanda. If you have not yet donated, and would like to, please go to: https://lnkd.in/eCwEXdnA Thank you to all those who joined and donated! It truly was a wonderful evening.

  • This past Friday night, G. Barrie Landry hosted a dinner party in her home with the honored guest Malala Yousafzai (yes, THE Malala), her husband, Asser Malik, and others from the Malala Fund. How fitting that it happened to be on the International Day of the Girl! In 2014, Malala became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize Winner and Nobel Laureate in history at age 17 for her efforts to protect and expand the right of girls in Pakistan to education – nearly at the expense of her own life. Despite a vicious and targeted attack that left her at death’s door for her persistence to go to school, Malala has dedicated her life to this cause.    One of that Maranyundo Girls School Alumna, Merci Mukasafari, who is now studying at Wellesley College, attended this dinner. Merci reflected, “I just wanted to thank…the [Maranyundo Initiative a lot for thinking of me and inviting me to be part of such a great evening. I am really grateful!” We sincerely thank Barrie for bringing together a global titan of the girl’s education movement with Maranyundo in this way. #girlseducation #internationaldayofthegirl #rwanda #malalafund #maranyundo

  • Fun Fact 📚 🎓 : Did you know that in Rwanda, national exams are a crucial milestone for middle/O-level and high/A-level school students? For middle schoolers (S3/Grade 9 Candidates), these exams determine where they will go for A-level if they choose public high schools, while for high schoolers (S6/Grade 12 Candidates), they decide their placement in public higher education institutions. Maranyundo Girls School students typically perform exceptionally well, achieving the highest distinctions in the country. This year, exams took place from July 25th to August 4th, 2024. Let's celebrate their hard work and success ! #RwandaNationalExams #MaranyundoGirlsSchool
