Corrections Officers Week is an annual observance that honors the contributions and sacrifices of correctional officers and personnel. The history of Corrections Officer Week dates back to 1984 when it was first proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan. President Reagan recognized the vital role that correctional officers play in maintaining public safety and ensuring the proper functioning of the criminal justice system. Since then, Corrections Officer Week has been celebrated annually as a time to acknowledge the often challenging and dangerous work performed by our correctional officers. Corrections Officer Week serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the important role of correctional officers in our community and to honor their service and sacrifices. This week, the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office is honoring the dedication, bravery, and hard work of our corrections officers. Their dedication ensures the safety and security within our facilities, where they often face challenging situations with a great deal of professionalism and resilience. To all the men and women who serve in this vital role, we say thank you for your commitment to keeping our communities safe.
